Vehicle Detail
One word- TIME CAPSULE opps that's 2 words This bike is all original including the period windshield and luggage rack. This incredible bike was traded in for a bigger machine back in 1982 or 1983....that last registration sticker is still on the bike (see pics). After it was traded in the shop owner covered it with a couple moving blankets and just left it in his storage area. It sat there with only a "750 sandcaster" for company for about 30 years. That's when I walked in looking for some thing interesting. I bought the bike without ever seeing more than just the front wheel and fender and maybe half of the windshield. My original plan was to make a little cafe' bike out of it. The shop owner said he would get it running and inspected and I could come pick it up in a week. It turned out that after the battery was replaced it fired right up. Gas was good 30 years ago. Just to be safe the tank was removed and cleaned out and the fuel filter was replaced. (the tank has unleaded premium with out ethanol in it) When I arrived to pick it up I was shocked by the condition of this thing. It is not perfect, see that chip on the front fender, and there is a small scratch or two here and there. But come on it's 44 years old. I didn't have the heart to start tearing pieces off of it to make a cafe' bike out of it. It was too nice for that. In my eyes this thing is about as good as it gets. I love this bike as it is. So much so that I have only ridden it a few miles. I fire it up every month or so and ride it around the parking area at the storage center where I keep my other treasures, or crap depending on your point of view. Any way I have way to much stuff, turns out I'm the storage centers 2nd biggest customer.(my wife is so proud) I want my baby to go to a good home. It would make a incredible pit bike for some one into vintage racing. If I win powerball before the auction ends I may do that. But chances are slim...... The bike is in Allentown PA. if you are a real bidder or have a wad of cash you want desperately to part with, I'll be more than happy to show it to you. call my cell phone 516-250-3581 and leave me a message. as long as you don't sound like a serial killer we'll set it up. Other things you need to know........ The bikes date of manufacture is December 1969 5387 original miles that's about 122 mile a year 4 speed transmission Manual drum brakes It has both kick and electric start The tires may have been replaced back in the 80's I am not knowledgeable enough about these things to know Every thing is in working order, if your in PA I can have it inspected when you pick it up If your nice I'll throw in the Clymer manual The wind screen is a little yellowed but it does not effect visibility at all. I think it's called patina now. I can for a fee, deliver the bike within a 150 miles. The starting price may seem high to some of you cheapskates out there. To you folks, I say find a better one and I'll buy it from you. This is a no reserve auction, it will sell to the right person that knows what they are looking at, and knows how rare something like this is. I will help with shipping on my end, but the buyer is responsible for all costs As Mike and Frank always say on American Pickers......the time to buy some thing you never see is when you see it. Thanks so much for looking If you plan to chop it up, please don't tell me Good luck, God Bless, and happy bidding
