Vehicle Detail

1931 Ford Model A Pickup - "Mr. Earl" Thanks for checking out Mr. Earl, my 1931 Ford Model A pickup. This is a great little truck, that came out of Nevada about 17 years ago to Oregon and had been in the same family for the last 52 years. The gentleman who was the care taker of Mr. Earl got him around 1962, and in the 70's did a light restoration to him. He parked the truck in the mid 1990's. When he passed it was given to his son, who loved Model A's as well. I was able to buy the truck recently, and was able to put it back on the road, it had not been out on the road since probably around 1995. Mr. Earl is really solid, and a very good little pickup. These trucks are great I have owned about 10 of them in the last 10 years, very useful, and just a hoot to drive, I hope to swing into the Saturday Market here in town with it this weekend, it would fit right in. I took it to Home Depot a few days ago to pick up some stuff, and had people all around it, it is just a magnet. It still needs a little tinkering, but overall, it does run very good and dependable. The brakes were upgraded to 1940-1948 Ford Hydraulic Brakes, all the way around. I just had the Master Cylinder and brake cylinders replaced, flushed the system out, and it stops great, a very nice upgrade for a rig like this. The engine needs a nice detail, don't let the pictures fool you, it runs really nice. If anything, I would, replace some of the gaskets this winter, it has a few small seaps, and paint the engine, to make it looks nice again under the hood, more of a cosmetic restoration is all it needs. The Odometer reads 84,510 on it currently and does work. I was told by the gentleman that is the correct mileage, since his dad had it since the early 60's and it really did not spend much time on the road for the last 50 years, but I don't have any proof but it may be possible. Anyways, enjoy reading the auction, and hope that Mr. Earl, find a nice new home were he will be used and enjoyed and not locked in a barn. The body is in really nice shape for the most part. It is all Henry Steel The paint is over 40 years , so it does have a lot of patina, paint cracking, chips, flaking, scratches etc. Me personally, I love the patina of this truck, I love the way he looks currently. When I got it the paint had faded, and it was fun to take the oxidation off, and make it shiny again. It just needed a really good cleaning. If someone wants to build a little hot rod, or rat rod ( to good for a rat road, he's not rusty) it would look great to leave the patina. But it wouldn't take much to paint it either. The doors shut nice, and all the panels fit very nicely for a rig of this age. The only rust on the body, that I have found, is some small bubbles at the bottom of the Cowl on the passenger side. Every were else looks very solid. Look at the pictures, there are lots of chips and scratches on the paint, it is not perfect. The fenders are all Henry Ford Steel, and are in really nice shape. The running boards are in nice condition. All the sheet metal is in nice shape, and this Pickup is not a bondo queen, very solid straight body. The wood in the bed, needs replaced, but easy to do, I was actually considering doing it, I have replaced lots of wood in beds in the past, but just didn't get around to it. The canvas top is in nice shape, no rips or tears in it, very solid. The interior is in good shape. The seat has some wear to it, but does match the door panels, not original, but looks good considering it matches good with the truck. Interior is spartan on these trucks. The front windshield does push out as well, I have it out a little in pictures, it does extend out about 3 more inches. The windshield is cracked on drivers side and needs replaced down the road. The rear window has a small crack in the corner. The door glass is in good shape, the passenger door window regulator needs some greasing, it needs a little help up and down. I might have an extra regulator for it, I got one with the truck in a box I believe, if it is correct I will include it, but no promises. The only thing working in the instrument cluster is the Odometer, and the speedometer does work, but sometimes the speedo you have to tap the glass. Windshield wiper seems to want to work, but is a little slow, probably needs to be cleaned out, might have an air leak, since it is vacuum. There is a horn button, the one in steering wheel is not working. The headlights and tail lights do work, as does the brake light. To start, turn the key on, and there is a push starter on dash, the one of the floor is not hooked up, much easier on dash. It has been converted to 12V system as well. The gas gauge and aftermarket temp gauge is not working. Overall a nice clean interior one that my wife does not mind riding in, it is clean, and looks nice, non smoker. The engine starts right up, and does idle nice and smooth. The engine needs a nice detail. I have not done anything to it, just got it ready to drive. It was running last year, but not driven. It probably could use spark plugs and a good tune up, since it has not been done for a long time, but right now, it seams to being doing just fine. Has good power, runs cool, really no issues concerning running. The transmission is the factory 3spd, it shifts nice, but you can feel a little grinding when you shift it, not bad, just a little bit, not sure if these rigs were completely synchronized or not, to me I have driven lots of these rigs, and seems pretty normal feeling to me. Just letting you know that there is a little grinding but very minor, might need a little clutch adjustment possibly. The brakes are in good shape, they are 1940-48 Ford Hydraulic Brakes, new cylinders all the way around, and new Master cylinder, a very nice upgrade that was done to it. Mechanically it is in pretty good shape. Like I said earlier, during the winter it will need a little tinkering, since it has not been on the road that much in the last 20 years, but I have driven it a lot in the last week, in town, and it was doing well. Drives nice and straight, and feels good and smooth down the road and turning. The tires are in really nice shape, no Cracking, or dry rot, very clean tires, and look great for theirage.
