Vehicle Detail
1976 Toyota Land Crusier FJ40 Hey, first of all for stopping by and checking out my 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. This Land Cruiser, I want to call a Survivor, it has never been restored, it has been repainted around 20 years ago and upkept through the years, and a few things improved to keep it looking nice, but overall all it has been well cared for, and is perfect just the way it is in my opinion. This Land Cruiser, came out of Eastern Oregon recently, and is pretty much a desert over in that area and they have some of the best classic cars in Oregon. Here in Oregon, we do not Salt the roads, we have very mild winters, and cool summers, which means very good original vehicles when it comes to sheetmetal, you will saved $$$ of your hard earned money with a vehicle like this, very solid. This FJ40, runs like a top, you can drive it anywhere, it is very dependable. The body is in very good shape, has a few small rust bubbles, but very fixable if you choose down the road. The Frame and body are excellent, and this is what you want when you buy a FJ40. The nice thing about this rig, is that it does have older paint, so what you see is what you get, fresh paint always makes me a little worried, because you don't know what's creeping underneath. This FJ40 is a Honest Rig, and looks great, and you can drive and enjoy right now. I just put Brand new 31X10.5 tires on it 15 miles on them, new Gabriel Ultra Shocks, and had the Wheels restored and new caps, to freshen it up a little. Please read on if you like what you have heard so far. There are about 70 photos below. The mileage, I was told was correct at 89,183, I do not have written documentation, but I have been around the rig enough, and I do believe it to be true myself from my experience, I could be wrong, but I think it is as well, especially when you look at under the hood, under the dash, pedals, nothing is all worn out, everything looks good and solid. I have seen some very nice restored FJ40's, sell for $45-60K, obviously this Cruiser has not had a nut and bolt restoration, but it is very original, and to me does not need restored, but if you wanted to one day it would be a great candidate to make it into a trailer queen, but hey, I want to drive mine, not a fan of trailers. The Body is in very nice shape, I know that it was resprayed about 20 years ago, the original color, the first picture in the listing, the sun was coming down when I took this shot, and cast the color a little bit more golden, it is the factory Beige like you see in all the other photos. The engine compartment, and under the hood, inside the doors etc, is original paint on the rig. I think that most of interior paint is original, I know that the rear floor might have been painted in the past, but hard to tell. The paint is in very nice shape for its age. There are a few light chips, that have been touched up, a couple have not, but nothing major on the Beige paint. The white on the roof has some chips and scratches on the sides, and could used repainted down the road, but looks decent. No signs of any rust on the top, which is a great thing, usually these have issues. The body is very sound, look at the pictures and you can see a few small rust bubbles starting in typical areas, but these could be repaired fairly easy down the road, if you choose to repaint it. The largest spot, were it broke though is under the rear spare tire area, I show picture of it. Personally I would leave them, or just have them fixed and spot painted. The paint is shiny, it does have some age to it, but over all from 10 feet away it looks really nice, not to nice, but very nice. There are some small flaws you might see under lights but pretty minimal for a Outdoors rig like this. You could take it to any Classic SUV, or Car show, Cruise night and really enjoy it. Take a look at all the pictures and you will get a very good idea of what it looks like, it is very honest. Take some time and look inside, and look at the seams, it is very sound. Interior is in great shape. I believe when it was repainted they did go ahead and have the front seats recoved. The headrest and rear seats are original though. I know that it does have a dash cap on the original dash pad as well. Overall there is some light wear on the inside, but pretty minor. This is a rig, that I could take my wife out on a date, and she would say this is very nice inside, it is very clean, non smoker as well. The steering wheel does have some cracks in it and wear. All the gauges are working, except the Gas Gauge, I think it is the gauge itself, because when I switch over the tanks, which it has 2, the gauge does not move. The wipers, heater, it does have a CD player, and speakers, though you will not see the speakers in pictures, I took them out, since I took the FJ40 to a show and wanted it to look as stock as possible. It has 2 very nice boxed, 6x9 speakers that go under the rear jump seats. Overall, the interior is very clean and nice looking. I would not change to much in the interior, maybe during the winter, replaced little things here and there, maybe paint and restore a few things, but really not that much to do in the interior, just the fun stuff if you want. All the glass is in good shape, but the front windshield has some wiper wear on the passenger side, tried to take a picture of it. There are 2 very small chips in windshield as well, but very minor down low. Engine runs like a top, pull the manual choke on the dash and it fires right up. I believe it is the original 2F inline 6 Toyota engine, number is on the block. The numbers on the inner fender well, have nothing to do with the engine number, just list general data about the rig, color, trans, axle etc. And there are no signs that this engine has ever been out of this rig. It does no blow smoke or burn any oil, very clean running 4.2. All the wiring looks good under the hood, and clean, and everything is there. Under the hood it could use some minor detailing of the engine, but it is Original, and thank goodness, no one every took this work horse out and put a 350 in it. I like these rigs bone stock original, and to me that is were all the fun is, unaltered FJ40's are hard to find. Nothing wrong with engine swaps, you may want to do it to this rig, and that is fine, but I like it the way it is. The transmission is the original 4spd manual, and shifts like a dream. The 4wd drive works, no issues, everything seams sound. No noise coming out of the rear and front end. The brakes work good, disc upfront and drums in the rear, no pulling, they seem in good shape. The driveline u-joints feel solid as well, no clunks etc. The front grease seals on the wheel hubs I think will need attention down the road, there is some residue on the hubs, you can see the build up, has been there for a long time, just routine stuff when owning a 4wd. Overall mechanically it is in very good shape. This is the kind of rig, that you can fly in and drive it home if you like.
