Vehicle Detail

1983 Honda XL600R near new survivor 2400 milesXL XR 600 R clear title, new reserve and terms read carefully For sale is an unrestored 1983 Honda XL600R. This bike is a true survivor with just over 2400 miles since new. This bike has literally never been ridden off road and always stored inside. Everything on the bike is completely original including the tires. It a true time capsule of what the first 600 dual purpose model was. As you'll see from looking at the pics, the original finishes are still in place on every part. Unless there is one still in a crate, this is likely the cleanest XL600R out there. I am only the third owner and purchased the bike recently. I've been a Honda guy since my first bike at 16, and worked at a Honda dealership in service from 1981-1983. I bought my first new bike in 1982 while at the dealership, a CB900F, that I still own today. Over the years I've picked up a lot of the Honda models I wanted as a young adult. Currently I have about 15 bikes and I'm always looking for the best available original bikes I can find. That's where this bike comes in. A few years ago I had a newer XR650R plated for the street. Liked that bike a lot but it was driver quality. So I set out looking for a vintage big single I could collect but also drive. When I found his bike I was shocked at the amazing condition it was in. The owner said they never even let it sit outside in the sun for fear of fading the switchgear and plastics. The oil was changed every spring and fall regardless of mileage. The gas was stored in winter with a small amount of two stroke oil to prevent the tank from rusting (see pics). As I went over the bike, it became clear it was actually TOO nice for me to use as I had hoped, as a part time daily driver. So I've decided to sell as it needs to be preserved in a better collection and I don't have the space for another bike I won't ride. I am not a dealer and only sell the bikes I personally collect and title. If you're looking at this you probably know the story of these bikes. 1983 was the first year of the 600, and has been the bulletproof big single platform since. This bike runs flawlessly. Once you learn the very easy starting procedure it starts on the first or second kick. Idles perfectly and the valve train is super quite. Clutch is tight and shifts perfectly. Literally it runs like it looks. Anyone buying a bike online knows bikes always look better in pics, so I have taken over 60 detailed pics, many very close so you can see the original finishes (Photobucket link below). It's not a stretch to say this bike looks as good in person as it does in pics. Nothing has been replaced, restored or repainted. Some of the pics are outside, some inside and some with flash so you can see the condition in a variety of settings. Any color shifts in the red are due to the differing light. The paint is deep red as original. The engine case finishes are like new without any of the normal scuffing from shifter or brake use. The controls, grips and gauge cluster is as new with no fading. You can still see the date code 1/83 on the brake hoses. The spoke nipples still have bright cad plating on them. You get the picture. The bike includes the original tool kit, original factory shop manual and dealer brochure (not reprints), and a spare NOS air filter. Not pictured is also an NOS starting procedure sticker that goes on the handlebar cross bar if you want to install for show purposes. The bike has the original key and an NOS Honda spare key that can be cut to match. The bike has a clear WI title in my name. The only thing I do not have is the original owner's manual. As good as it looks, it is still 31 years old. The original tires are starting to crack (see detail pic). As a collector bike I chose not to replace them but if this bike were to be ridden regularly you would want to consider that. There are a few very faint spider cracks in the black decal on the left side cover where the lower bolt attaches that are hard to even see in photos. I have not touched up but you could easily with black shoe polish. The previous owner fabricated an additional alloy rear fender bracket to fix the common droopy rear fender (see pic). The right side of the rear fender has a thin hairline crack that is roughly 2.5" long (see pic). The bike does not come with mirrors as show. The bike is being sold with a reserve. I've restored several old Hondas, as many parts still exist. Because of off road use, there are very very few NOS spares for these bikes. The reserve is far far lower than it would cost to restore to this condition even if you could find the parts. I previously listed the bike not offering it bike for sale locally. It is now also for sale locally. If you watched the last auction closely, you should have seen what the reserve was when the high bidder retracted his bid after not being able to find freight options to his liking. I have lower the reserve but I will not sell the bike for offers below the reserve. If you want to make me an offer do so in a message. I have bought and sold several bikes on eBay over the years. Accurate and honest descriptions are the only way you maintain 100% feedback. I have tried to represent the bike as fairly as possible. If you have any questions please ask BEFORE bidding. If you have less than 10 feedback I will not except your bid. The bike is sold as is as shown with no expressed warranty in any way. The bike will be sold as shown with no additional miles. It will not be ridden until in the new owner's possession. Payment and shipping. It should go without saying that bidding is a binding agreement to pay. By bidding the bidder certifies that they have read and agree to the terms of this listing and any/all associated purchase contracts, and the eBay Motors Vehicle Protection Program terms. As the high bidder your are responsible to complete the transaction. A $300 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of auction close via paypal. The remaining balance will be due at time of delivery. Cash is preferred but I will consider other methods with the appropriate waiting period to ensure funds clear. You will not be able to take possession of the bike or title until funds have cleared. Local pick up is available. In addition, local viewing is an option if we can make our schedules work. I highly recommend viewing the bike if possible before bidding or making me an offer. If local pick up is not an option, shipping is the sole responsibility of the buyer. I have shipped several bikes via haulbikes.com with great success. I have also used Steve Allen at bevelheaven.com as a haulbikes reseller. He offers additional oversight at no additional charge to the haulbikes price. Great guy. I have not used ebay's Uship service but if you have that's fine. Any option that requires transport to a dealer or crating is NOT acceptable. No dealer I know locally will take responsibility for any liability using that method. I have no experience shipping internationally. If you are an international buyer please contact me before bidding. I have included a Photobucket link that shows over 60 pics in high res. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding. http://s361.photobucket.com/user/joex-ray/library/XL600R
