Vehicle Detail
2003 MERCURY MARAUDER This car was owned by my Father who passed away at the age of 86 last month. I lost my best friend and my Hero on that day. I am representing the sale of the car to settle his estate. He purchased this car from RYAN LINCOLN MERCURY of Springfield, Pennsylvania on 1/10/2005 after they informed him a nice trade-in had arrived in the condition they felt suited what he was in search of, specifically: low mileage, original paint black clearcoat, dark charcoal interior, loaded with all options including the six disc CD changer in the trunk, but with a very specific request to have no sunroof option. He had his eye on a new second generation Marauder since they first came to market (***he enjoyed rolling on his horsepower on command, read on please), and enlisted the local dealership to keep their eyes open for the “right” one, time not being of the essence... Early January of 2005, he got a call from the dealership saying they had received a nice senior citizen owned Marauder (new car trade-in) with 18,185 documented miles on the clock. He went to the dealership, inspected the car and made his decision to take it home. Total sale price: $23,798.59 out the door. All applicable dealership documents remain with the car. I have gathered the entire maintenance logbook on the car, with original sales documents from the dealership, original owner’s manuals, sales brochures, receipts for correct replacement BF Goodrich T/A tires front/ rear, etc. All have been kept neatly in one folder. ***Regarding horsepower: If you notice, the license plate on the car reads “AG-CAT”. To those who may not know what an AG-CAT is, it was a turbocharged radial engine beast of a crop duster Biplane built by Grumman Industries in Elmira, N.Y. in conjunction with Schweizer Aircraft available with up to 1,200 some odd horsepower on tap. The first one flew in 1957. The year before I was born... Arguably the work horse of workhorses in the crop dusting industry. Grumman decided to continue using the suffix “CAT” in their offerings (“HELLCAT, WILDCAT”, etc). “AG” denoting agricultural. Please note photo in this listing, of my Dad in front of the airplane. My Father, having retired from American Airlines after 42 years, enjoying his horsepower on command, deemed the AGCAT his all time favorite, up there with a Cessna 310 and Stearman biplane. I will forever enjoy childhood memories of sitting on his brief case to see over the control panel, flying from the Piper factory in Vero Beach, Florida to deliver new Cherokees to Pennsylvania and N.J. sans radios, etc. The license plate on his Marauder, this Marauder, is a tribute to the AG-CAT and his experience flying the airplane. I am retaining the license plate for sentimental posterity, with one exception: If the remote possibility exists you are a pilot with AG-CAT experience and you reside in Pennsylvania, the plate will remain on the car if that is something of interest. The car is garaged, the odometer now reads approximately 59,000 miles and remains currently registered in Pennsylvania. That translates to 4,500 or so miles per year of his nine year ownership. The car has logged approximately 2,000 miles in the past two years, since my Dad developed neuropathy in his legs and he gradually had become unable to monitor the accelerator pedal on the car, subsequently contributing to the end of his flying career. I am offering this un-modified, well kept, original car on a No Reserve basis and it will go to the highest bidder, regardless of price. Need more photos of the car? Just let me know. The passenger (remote mode) door lock sticks occasionally, the driver's seat shows very minor wear at the left hip pivot point as you can see in the photo and I recall my Dad mentioning the overhead compass did not always want to work properly. Very well cared for, healthy running car, and kept entirely bone stock without modifications. Car is located in Springfield, PA. Offered as is, with no warranties. May the best Man win. Take Care, Eric
