Vehicle Detail

1968 Dodge Charger, 383 magnum, AUTO, PS, PB, 3.91 8¾ suregrip. (originally 3.23 open diff) Very solid, clean, fast Charger. All original parts for #’s matching are available, see red text below. Except for a repaint in '92 this car was essentially a survivor when I purchased it in '98. The odometer showed 50,900 miles at that time and it currently shows 55,380. The paint is holding up well but is not perfect. There are numerous small defects but these can’t be seen from more than 5-10 feet away. The interior is all original except for reproduction carpet and new front seat covers/buns as the originals were in pretty bad shape. I also carefully removed the buddy seat and brackets and added an aftermarket floor shifter. The vinyl top is in really good shape except for a few small defects that are shown in the pictures below. There is some rust in the trunk with a few BB sized holes in the floor but is still very solid (I wired brushed the worst of it and sprayed on a coat of Eastwood rust encapsulator). This wouldn’t need to be addressed until the next time it is repainted. This rust hasn’t advanced since I’ve owned the car as I’ve never driven the car in the rain and it’s been stored in an insulated shop since ‘98. In 2005 the engine took a turn for the worse and what started as a plan to just recondition the heads turned into a firewall forward “restification”. Except for the wheel/tire package I tried to keep a very stock look and feel. The machine shop that did the rebuild thought that this was the first time the engine had been opened up. I have many records from previous owners of the car including the original owners. I have many before and after digital pictures of the work I have done on the car that will be included. Overall, this car looks great, drives wonderfully, is very fast, and attracts attention like crazy. Restoration/Modifications: Engine: Original block .030 over with 440 crank & rods (432 CI), Forged pistons, Edelbrock aluminum heads and intake, Comp XEHL-275 cam and pro magnum roller rockers, Dyno tuned, Aluminum water pump housing, street hemi oil pan, windage tray, Demon 750 carb setup by FBO Systems, 120 amp Denso alternator, replaced engine wiring harness with reproduction, Polylock motor mounts. Transmission/Rearend: Trans rebuilt in 1998. Added TCI performance torque converter when engine was rebuilt in 2005, external trans oil cooler and deep pan, swapped original 3.23 open diff with fresh 3.91 suregrip. Cooling: Replaced stock 22 inch radiator with a 26 inch Ron Davis aluminum unit with dual spal fans. Suspension/Brakes: Mopar Performance heavy duty torsion bars and leaf springs, all new poly suspension bushings, adjustable tubular upper control arms, Fatman 2 inch drop spindles, big factory front disc brake swap, Hydrateck power brakes, gas shocks front & back. Steering: Firm Feel stage 1 power steering box. Chassis: Added sub-frame connectors, bolt on drive shaft safety loop. Exhaust: TTI exhaust system – 3 inch from manifolds to mufflers and then 2.5 inch over the rear axle. Fuel system: New gas tank with ½ inch pick-up, -8 braided hose to Clay Smith high output mechanical pump, fuel regulator with small bleed back to the tank to avoid vapor lock. Wheels/Tires: Billet Specialties/NITTO – 18 inch 295/45 Rear, 17 inch 245/45 Front. Interior: Replaced carpet with factory correct style and color, Added additional floor insulation, Added B&M floor shifter, Added column mounted tach, Added Grant wood steering wheel. Parts: I have a number of new restoration parts (some weather stripping, under hood decals, etc.) that I haven’t installed yet. I have kept virtually every part, nut and bolt that was taken off the car but not reused including: 383HP crank & rods, heads, intake, carb, air cleaner, oil pan, water pump housing, misc. bolts, brackets, etc. Steering wheel, column shift handle, “Buddy” seat (excellent condition) with brackets. Front drum brake setup including spindles, booster. All of the new and used parts that I have for this car will be included in the “Buy it now” sale only. Otherwise, winning bidder can make me an offer for these parts which I’m not obligated to accept. I also have the original 3.23 8¾ center section that I am willing to swap back in at auction end if the winning bidder would prefer. Regardless, only one center section will be sold. Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs and scheduling. Winning bid amount must be paid in full within 7 days and before title will be transferred and/or car released.
