You can also have it done by the local MB Dealer. Of course, you can do it yourself as well. 1998 E300 TURBO DIESEL with 220,579 miles in excellent mechanical & cosmetic condition. This car has been my daily driver for the past 8+ years, reason I'm selling is because I acquired a Prius. Please read the entire description as it contains a great deal of detailed info about the car. Also Included: 2 air filters, 2 fuel filters, 2 fuel pre-filters, 2 cabin air filters, 1 oil filter, Touch up paint, Various bulbs (side marker, brake/tail light, low beam), Extra Key (metal key), Owners Manual, Radio Operation Guide (with Security Code written on inside) General Description This car has all of the options that were available at the time: Heated Seats and Lumbar Support (backrest and seating area both inflate) on Driver & Passenger seats, rear sunshade, xenon headlights, rain sensor, Bose premium stereo. This car runs like a DREAM, especially on the highway where it gets around 32-34 MPG. The transmission and engine are in TOP condition. Tires are Bridgestone Eucopia, three of them have only 16K miles while one of them (that was replaced) has only 4K miles. I have lifetime alignment at Firestone, just had the car aligned at 218K. It blows cold air. It has no major mechanical issues - please see below for the few repairs that it could use as well as detailed maintenance history. I have all of the service records and parts receipts on this car since 2004 when the car had 82K miles on it. If you are buying an E300 TD, you should know that the spring perches (which hold the suspension springs in place) are known to rust and fail - not a cheap fix and potentially dangerous. I had the perches replaced when I purchased the car using Dealer parts, then sealed. The car has lived in California ever since - so you can rest assured that the spring perches are sound and safe. Mechanical Issues (1) Sunroof opens about 4" then stops and will not open more. You can hear the motor turning, so my guess is that it needs new cables. (2) When you retract the windshield wiper blade (for example, when washing the car), it doesn’t snap and hold its position, you need to hold it while you wash/dry that area. When squirting wiper fluid, the fluid only comes out of one hole (still wets the windshield). The wiper, including the rain sensor, operates flawlessly. (3) Parking brake (E-brake) feels a little bit stiff, it could probably use a cable tightening. (4) Brakes sometimes squeak (can’t tell where it’s coming from) when you back up slowly. They do not squeak while driving forward (i.e. when you come to a stop), only when you are backing up and hit the brakes. The pads and rotors are in good shape - I was told that the back of the pads need to be regreased. The brakes work great. NOTE: This is not a mechanical issue, but I should mention: I had the windows tinted all the way around in March 2011. The front windows are technically illegal to tint, though I have never been pulled over or ticketed. The company will remove the front tints for you (if you like) at a cost of around $75. I can get this done for you if you are an out of area buyer. I did this to protect my fair skin from UV rays as well as the interior of the car. Body Work In February 2012, some work was done by West Coast Auto Body on Venice Blvd. The passenger side roof rail was straightened out and repainted. At the same time, the shop took some door dings out of the passenger side and repainted the panel. Last month, Century Custom Coach took a dent out of the trunk lid, repainted it and replaced the emblems. The lid already had some scratches on it, and a nice dent due to my backing into a green recycling bin that was filled with dirt (heavy) in my driveway. Both shops did really nice work. Last week, I had the car detailed inside/out by a professional mobile detailer who used to work for Beverly Coachcraft. He did an awesome job.
