1963 Studebaker Avanti R1 Automatic with 70,000 (+) original miles. Have owned since mid 1980's. This is the original Avanti that Studebaker built, has been driven very little and stored in a very dry pole barn. All-important hog-troughs are very solid, as is cross-member at trunk. Brakes are original disc (new pads of course), and transmission engages and shifts properly. Car was repainted original color (Avanti Red) back in the 80's. and was sanded down to the fiberglass. Paint has some garage flaws, but looks good. Bumpers, etc. were re-chromed. Carpets replaced (black, not "salt & pepper"), as well as headliner (not original). Dash is near perfect. Gauges work except clock. Windows are crank and need a little help, but close properly. A/C has original R-12 and blows cold, but fan motor blows fuses (new clutch on compressor last year). Brake lines replaced. Original radio still works pretty well. Chrome on engine is missing spark-plug covers. Voltage regulator newer, smaller type that is right on alternator (see pic). Has "T-Bird" dipstick on power steering pump reservoir. Leaks some oil due to not being driven enough. Near-new tires. Brand new battery this summer. This Avanti was featured in the Haggerty Old Car magazine (see pics), with the article entitled "Class of '63" that included my car, a Riviera and a Vette. You can check it out on-line. Reason for selling is need to downsize (another GT Hawk). This is a very solid, original Avanti that has not been abused or weatherd.
