I'm selling a 1997 Honda xr400. This bike is a California street legal ENDURO that is currently registered and has a clean title in my name ready to go. I have never had any problems with this bike, it has always ran good and is very reliable. It starts first kick hot or cold and idles smooth. The Honda XR400 has a good bottom- and mid-rpm power. The XR is a slim, nimble bike with outstanding steering, proven reliability and no pesky radiators to squish. It meets the federal standards for an off-road bike as well as California standards. The XR is the choice of 90 percent of adventure tour/off-road rental companies for a reason: It is dead reliable! For any trail use aside from sand hillclimbs, the XR churns out plenty of power. There is no E-start, but it cranks over easily and reliably. The five-speed trans is good for a little more than 70 mph, but first will save your butt in the tightest trail predicaments.The suspension is plush with decent travel, but again, judged as a trailbike, not a race bike. If you could find a slimy, awful, technical race where survival was more important than speed, the XR would still be a weapon. The handling is very nimble with tight steering, no bike does that better than the XR400R. No radiators to ruin or over heat on the trail. It offers decent power and suspension action day in and day out. Nimble handling, great brakes and a comfy seat make it a pleasure to ride anywhere at any time, but it’s not a race bike. I am only selling because I am a brand new Firefighter on probation and can not afford any injuries during the first year. I just installed new front and rear tires, new grips, new front and rear fenders, new side panels and installed a new seat cover. This bike has always been rode nicely and never jumped or raced. All suspension works great and has no leaking seals. Disclaimer: This bike is a 1997 and has been used as a dual sport so please expect it to have small scraps and scratches. Also, there is no horn or blinkers on this bike. You just start it and go! Lights are powered by the motor so you never have to worry about a dead battery. I recommend installing a new chain and air filter in the near future. The frame has been touched up with spray paint and there is some small over spray. I pride myself in being an honest as possible and do not want anyone to ever feel tricked or cheated.
