Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a very solid and original 1968 AMC Javelin. This is the base model with the 290 V8 and automatic transmission. It has manual steering and brakes. I have a folder from the previous owner with a few receipts and one of them was for installing A/C at the dealership back in the day! You can see the vents in the dash. The evaporator, condenser and other parts are in the trunk but do not have the compressor and brackets. This car is completely rust free and is one of the most honest and original old cars I have come across in a long time. No, it isn't real pretty right now but it won't break the bank to make this one a beauty again. The car is arrow straight and body gaps all line up nice. It shows no evidence of ever having any collision repairs of any kind and I believe the paint is mostly original. The color is Caravelle Blue. I have looked this car over very closely and I can not find any rust through-not even a pinhole! Because of this, restoration would be easy and straight forward. Not many parts to chase either as it is complete. Some moldings and some of the AC parts are in the trunk. It was missing the wiper motor but I purchased one here on eBay and it is also in the trunk along with a nice pair of taillight housings and lenses. If I were to do this car I would simply scuff the paint and prep the body and repaint it in the original color. As far as the mechanics go the car is surprisingly tight and runs and drives very good considering it sat up for so long. Brakes straight without any pulling a drives straight without any wandering. The little 290 purrs like a kitten once it warms up. It is a little cold natured but once it warms up it runs smooth and without any ticking or unusual noises. Transmission goes into every gear and shifts the way it supposed to. The car is in the Houston TX area if you wish to look into shipping costs. I purchased the car about 6 months ago from a man in Mississippi who I think bought it from the original owner. I bought it to restore it and had a plan in mind to increase the fun factor with a mildly built 360 and a change it over to a stick. With that in mind, I purchased a complete clutch and brake pedal assembly and I also picked up a warmed up 360 that was built by a very reputable shop here in Houston. It has a hydraulic flat tappet cam and flat tops. The rotating assembly was balanced and it was run in on the dyno where it made around 350HP. The 360 is not included in the auction but I would be willing to sell it separately if the buyer is interested. You would have to arrange to have it shipped however. I have a very reasonable reserve for a car in this condition. Hopefully I have covered everything here but if not please feel free to email me through eBay and I will be happy to address any questions you may have. On Jul-04-14 at 16:32:08 PDT, seller added the following information: Attention potential bidders: I cancelled the top bid because I was suspect of the bidder's intentions. Much to my surprise I woke up this morning to see the car had reached the reserve with 8 days to go in the auction. The bidder blew up my inbox with 5 messages within 2 hours with the exact same message which was " Hi, this is Brian from Toronto. I am interested in your car. Please tell me what your reverse (his spelling) is. Please respond. Three messages in a one minute span the two messages in a one minute span two hours later. I didn't respond last night but I was planning on doing so this morning with my standard answer which is "thank you for your interest but I can not reveal the reserve". I sent him a carefully worded request email respectfully asking him if he was a serious bidder and I offered to let him out of his obligation if had buyers remorse after sleeping on it. As I suspected, not a peep today. I truly believe his intentions were to blow up my auction because I didn't answer his stupid questions right away. All of this said, it is now apparent that my reserve was $4000. I paid 4K for the car and spent another 600to have it shipped and a couple of hundred dollars in parts. Needless to say I would like to get as close to this number as I can but I'm willing to entertain all reasonable offers. This really sucks since I had over 600 views and 60 watchers so apparently others saw the value in a solid and rust free classic so hopefully not all of you have lost interest.
