Vehicle Detail

I purchased this vehicle from a seller in Alexandria, Mn. in 2008 who had just completed major restoration work on the car. The following are my notes of his description of the car and work he had done. California car purchased there from original owner in the mid 1990's and transported to Minnesota. It was maintained in storage there prior to initiation of restoration work which commenced in the early 2000's. Mechanical work included replacement short block (not numbers matching but within engine number sequence for 1967 Karmann production) fitted with new pistons, jugs, and extra capacity extended sump; head re-built; carburetors rebuilt; new pressure plate, clutch and throw out bearings. Brakes redone. Heater cores sandblasted. New Momo steering wheel. All new interior soft texture marine grade vinyl interior including headliner. Side glass and rear windows tinted. All sealing rubber replaced. New European style front spoiler/bumper. New low profile Bridgestone Potenzas (which I replaced shortly thereafter due to low ground clearance). New gas tank and sending unit. New paint job in Porsche Arctic Silver (Ditzler/PPG 36433). Headlight trim and rear grille painted; windshield chrome trim eliminated. During the time of my ownership I have driven the car occasionally during the summer and put it in storage for winters. I've logged less than 5000 miles in total. The car has always been garaged inside and never driven in inclement weather. It has experienced regular maintenance including annual oil changes. Additionally I have had the following service work performed. Installed 4 new Dunlop tires. Had structural repairs made to driver's seat back shell. Replaced front lower ball joints and outer tie rod ends. Detected small (8" x 10") spot in under body pan that seemed "soft" and had it professionally repaired. Had extended capacity sump removed due to occasional ground clearance/scrapping. There are also several smaller mechanical/functional issues I never got around to completing. These are as follows. Windshield washer tank, pump, hoses and jets were never re-installed. Horn was never re-installed. Spare tire and jack were never re-installed. Four way safety flashers do not work although the flasher relay is audible. The radio works but the antenna is not connected. One lug nut is missing. Unusual deep shank design; never found a replacement. Small deformity in driver's side headlight trim ring. Lastly I suspect the car was at best only spot primed between the original polo red and the current arctic silver finish coat. I say this because several rock chips (most prevalent in the lower back corners of the rocker panels as shown in one of the photos) reveal red paint directly beneath. In my opinion this is a fun and attractive vintage car to drive. But if you are looking for a pedigree numbers matching trailer queen this is not it. I am reluctantly putting it up for sale because I have too many vehicles and I just don't find myself driving it very much. I have attempted to describe the car accurately. If you have further questions please ask before bidding. I would prefer to have the successful bidder pick the car up, but am willing to assist loading it onto an auto-transporter arranged and paid for by the buyer. A $1000 PayPal deposit is required within 48 hours of the close of the auction. The car has a clear Wisconsin title in my name. The following items go with the car: original 912 Owners Manual, a used Chilton's 912 Service Manual, the last California plate, a pint of Arctic Silver paint, and the file of service invoices (going back to 1976).
