Vehicle Detail
I purchased this 62 Corvette from the estate of the man who owned it since the mid -1960s. From what I was told, he did a body on restoration in the early 1970s and then drove the Corvette until he finally parked it in his garage in 1979 where it had been stored ever since. As my photos show, we pulled it out of hiding, cleaned it up a bit and got it running. This 1962 Corvette originally came from the factory finished in the "Rare & Desirable" color combination of a Sateen Silver Exterior with a Black Bucket Seat Interior. The driveline is a 327/300 hp, 4 speed with a 336 posi rear. Other options ordered were factory seat belts, and both tops, folding convertible and the hardtop. The convertible body is clean, straight and shows no signs of any panel replacement. The front end is original to the car and is in unhit condition. The blue paint is over 40 years old and still has a shine but it does have chips and scratches and is driver quality at best. None of the wheel lips or openings have been altered or opened up and the only alteration done to the body is speaker holes cut into the rear convertible hatch. All of the chrome or brightwork on the car is in nice presentable condition but will need to be replated for show quality. The clear window glass is original to the car with both side windows being in really nice condition. However the windshield on the top drivers side has 2 small cracks as shown in my last photo. A new windshield will be included with the sale of this vehicle. The non original white interior is in nice condition. The seats had their covers replaced but the dash pad, door panels and visors still retain their original black covers underneath. The white convertible top appears to be new and unused and was probably installed when the interior and paint job was done, however from being folded up for the last 30 + years it has shrunk and can not be latched at the rear. The convertible top mechanisim folds easily and is in really clean condition. One last issue while on the interior, I did not receive the original radio and you will see that the radio mounting area has been cut out and probably had an aftermarket stereo installed at one time. Under the hood rests a non-original 1969 327 Crate Engine Long Block. The intake and AFB Carb are from a 1965 Corvette. The radiator, distributor, fan, exhaust manifolds, pulleys & brackets are all original to the car. I put in a new battery and did a complete electrical tune-up. I rebuilt the carb & installed a new fuel pump, gas tank and sending unit. I also changed all of the water hoses & fluids and installed a correct new surge tank. The engine starts instantly and it runs and sounds good and does not smoke, tick, knock or leak any fluids. I am sure that you understand that after a car sits for 30+ years it is going to need serviced. Attached to the motor is the original aluminum bell housing and numbers matching T-10 4-speed transmission that runs quiet and shifts smoothly. Comming up through the console is the original 4-speed shifter with reverse lock out. The 336 Posi Traction Rear End is original to the car and is date and code correct. The frame is clean & straight and has never been wrecked, repaired or welded. It has surface rust from age and usage but no rust through with the exception of 2 small areas on both ends of the rear crossmember. The original spare wheel and scissors jack are still in the trunk. The aluminum wheels and Goodyear tires are vintage 1970s and are still in nice condition. I did not receive and the car does not have the 4 original wheels & hubcaps. This Vette rolls, steers and yard drives, however it still needs a complete brake job and new exhaust system to be legally street driven. If you have been searching for the right 62 Corvette that has not been wrecked, repaired or cobbled together from parts, with a solid history, here is your opportunity to own a nice unmolested 2-owner survivor that will make a great driver or an excellent start to a 100 point show car. Please understand that you are bidding to buy, not to be the first one to look. If you need to examine this car during the auction, you are more than welcome and I recommend that you do so. I do not have a buy it now price and I am not interested in any trades. I do have a reasonable and realistic reserve. This car comes with a clean clear New Jersey Title. Winning bidder is to pay a substantial deposit within 48 hours and the cash balance due upon pick up of the vehicle within 7 days. NO Paypal accepted on this Corvette. Thank you for looking and good luck bidding! collectorcarsnparts4u Store
