Vehicle Detail
1957 Ford F100 - Custom Cab Short Box - Big Back Window NO RESERVE Thanks for stopping by and checking out my 1957 Ford F100 Custom Cab, these are very neat trucks, one year only Single headlights for the 1957-60 body style. This truck is a Short Wide, hard to find one, especially a Big Back window '57. This truck does run and drive, it was painted about 20 years ago, not as a show truck but just to be a nice driver. This truck is very solid, runs and drives good, I have driven it around a lot, it gets lots of looks. I have a lot of photos for you to look at it, and you can get a very good idea of what the truck is. Mechanically it runs very good, it starts right up, it does not burn oil, or blow smoke, the 4spd transmission shifts nicely, and the brakes work. It has a fairly clean interior, but still needs a little work to finish it off, pretty minor things. What it really needs is a lot of wiring, the wires under the dash, under the hood, need a lot of work, someone might be able to get it all worked out, but personally if I were to keep it, I would buy a new wiring harness, pretty simple on a truck of this vintage, and just have most of it all rewired. The paint is about 20 years old, it is not a show paint job, more of a amateur paint job, but overall decent for a driver, that you can drive to your local cruise in and just have fun. This is a very good project, not a $30-35K F100, it could be if you took the time to work on it. But for right now, it is an enjoyable F100, that you can just go out and have fun with it with very little effort. Read on for more information if interested, flowing is about 75 pictures inside and out. The body on the truck is actually pretty solid, with very little rust issues like you see on most of these trucks. I will start with the hood, one of my favorite parts on the '57 only, love the clean lines of it, and the ridges down the center, very unique. the hood is in very nice shape, no rust, no bubbles, very straight hood. The emblem, upfront does have a screw in the front of it see pictures. The grill area and front bumper are in very nice shape, absolutely love the grill on these trucks, the headlight surrounds almost look 1957 Chevy like, this truck has a very 1950's look. Ford did a good job with the 1957 F100, I believe. The fenders are in very nice shape, pretty straight when you look down the sides, the bottoms are rust free, nice fenders. The Rockers are in nice shape as well. The doors are in good shape, a little bit wavy it is a pretty big flat surface. There are some little bubbles starting in a few places at the door bottoms, see in pictures. All the glass is in nice shape, no chips or cracks. The Roof is in really nice shape, very straight, with very good roof gutters, no rust issues. The bed is actually in good shape for one of these, especially being a single walled bed. It is a little wavy down the sides, but the body lines are in good shape. No rust in the bed, pretty clean. The tailgate is complete, but it does have lots of dings in it etc. I will also mention the top of the rails on bed are in nice shape. the bed floor is decent, a little wavy from being used like a truck, there is one small tear in the bed floor about 3" long, could be welded up very easy, see pictures. The under carriage is nice for a truck of this age, very good frame. The bottom of the floors look good. The cab corners look like they have had some repairs, and there is some filler in the cab corners. The bottom of the step box, underneath you can see it has had some repairs as well. But for the most part a clean unrestored undercarriage. The rear bumper is in good shape being that it is straight but it will need new chrome down the road. Interior is decent as you can see, but it needs a little work. The carpet is okay, but it does have some staining on it, but it is complete, it is glued down pretty good actually. The seat is in very nice shape actually, one of the best things about the interior, feels great good cushions, very little wear on it. The headliner is in nice shape as well, they were trying to mimic the ribs in hood, and they did a decent job. The steering wheel, is original, has some small cracks in it. The dash area, paint is nice. It will need door panels they are reproduced, and just snap in. The biggest need for the interior, is the gauges, and other electrical stuff. The Wiring in this truck as I mentioned before, really needs some help, someone in the past has spliced this and that, over and over, and it is hard to tell what is what. The odometer and speedometer are not working, it needs a new cable. It has 2 after market gauges under dash, Temp and Oil pressure and they do work good. Rest of the gauges are not working, it does not have turnsignals either. For driving right now, I would take it and just put an aftermarket, blinker lever unit on the column and wire it so you have blinkers. It does have Headlights, and taillights, and one brake light is working, the other one works sometimes and other times not. The rear lic. plate light works though. Marker lights work. The windshield wipers are working as well. That is the biggest need for it right now as I mentioned, is wiring. Horn and heater are not working either. With that said, it starts up, and you can drive it all day long. Mechanically it seems to be in pretty good shape. I have driven it in a 40 mile round trip, and no issues out on the highway. I did put a upgraded Holley carb on it, and it runs very good with it. The only thing not hooked up is the choke, but honestly it doesn't need it right now, it is a manual choke, just needs to be rerouted. It has a vintage Clifford intake manifold on it, which is pretty cool, and headers. It does have a few exhaust leaks, and the pipes need to be finished back, but it is a strong running little truck. I believe the engine is a 221 Ford inline six, not sure if it is original to the truck. It has a couple very tiny oil leaks, maybe a dime size or 2 over night, after driving it, pretty minor. I know one of the leaks, is from the oil pressure connection, I am going to replace it before it leaves, it has as small drip coming out of the bottom of the connection. I do have a new valve cover gasket, and side cover gasket for it, I tightened up the bolts, they were loose, there was some seaping around the valve cover and the side rocker cover. I had already bought the gaskets, but it seems like tightening the bolts down was all it needed for now. I will send gaskets with it though for future use. The transmission is a 4 spd manual, granny gear, and 1-3rd and reverse. It does shift very nice, has a hydraulic clutch, which is new to me, and has a different feeling then the manual ones that I am used to. But it does seem to work very good, no grinding or chattering, very smooth when driving it. The brakes work good, and stops nicely. When you first take it out, after sitting a few days, when you first break, it pulls slightly to the left, but after that first braking it seams to straighten one, and be good. Yep it rides like an old truck, but I have driven it 55-60 mph out on the highway for longer 20 mile stretches and it does great. Did I mention it it had wiring issues, if you missed it, it does need some wiring done, a new harness to get everything working and clean again. Overall, though, it starts right up, and you can drive it and enjoy it. This is a project that you could drive everyday, and work on during the weekend, it is very dependable, and has a nice little rumble for a inline 6.
