Vehicle Detail

For sale: Once in a lifetime 20k actual mile survivor 1969 IHC 1300 D series 1 ton 4x4 originally used by the US National Park Service. Heavy duty off road 4x4's are the hot trend right now and this is truck is the original heavy duty 4x4, with a big truck look and feel, yet it's no larger than a standard 4x4 pickup. This truck is still wearing it's original paint, seat upholstery, radiator hoses, shocks, etc and still bears the factory chalk marks on the chassis underneath. It was originally used as a light fire/service/utility truck on the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It was equipped with a small (150 gallon) water tank and pump and the original 9 foot stepside box had the fenders removed and Darley service boxes mounted on the sides. It looks like you could put a set of original fenders and tailgate back on if desired. The gentleman I purchased the truck from bought it in 2001 with 5k actual miles in as-new condition. He removed the tank and pump and used it as a general pickup truck on his ranch in Montana. It has been inside stored since day one up until the last couple of years. The truck is in great survivor condition with no rot and only very minor surface rust. Here in the land of sagebrush and prickly pear cactus, we only see 10 inches of total moisture per year and no salt is used on the roads. This very special truck is ready to use as is and I'll do my best to describe it below. Exterior: Original paint is in good condition with some light fading. Original National Park signage in very good condition. Truck would really shine with a professional buffing, I only used a rag and cleaner wax. Two spots on back of cab have been touched up and the tool boxes have been repainted in several spots. Paint inside box and on rear bumper is faded and there is some white overspray. There's a thin spot right under window where your arm rests with window down. Area under fuel filler is slightly discolored from fuel spillage. NO rot or serious rust, only minor surface rust under truck (see link below for pics). We don't just don't see rust or rot issues in this arid country- there's just no moisture. I have owned many of these trucks, and I think this is the driest truck I have ever seen, owing to 40 years of meticulous care and proper inside storage. There are small dents in the hood, looks like from tossing gear or packs on it - nothing huge. It really is an honest rig, you can see that it's very straight and dry overall. There are the usual chips and scratches from years of use, several on the back of the cab. There are three large holes in the floor of the box from the apparatus that resided there. Small holes in roof from beacon and antenna, and three small holes plugged off on passenger front side of hood. Chrome in excellent condition with no pitting. Front bumper is bent on driver side from an argument with a stump. Glass is all in good condition including windshield, which has one small chip. I don't have the original fenders or tailgate, and truck comes as is with no tailgate. Interior: All original and very presentable. Factory IH branded floor mat in very good condition. Dash in good shape other than small crack near speaker and extra hole drilled. Steering wheel in excellent condition with no cracks. Headliner good, seat good and armrests good. Driver door armrest chromed plastic escutcheon must have broken and is missing, these aren't hard to find. Everything seems to work as new. Aftermarket stereo was installed and works great. Overall really nice shape for a truck of this age and no issues to drive and use. Mechanical: Appears 100 percent original under the hood except battery, plug wires, two heater hoses and alternator. Starts, runs, drives out well like a low mile original should. No major issues - 304 engine runs very smooth and pulls hard and trans shifts well. Most IH V8's seem to have lifter noise, this one has none. Purrs like a sewing machine. No noticeable smoke or significant leaks. I tested the 4 x 4 and transfer case and everything work fine. Everything on the truck appears to work from what I can tell. Tires are newer 9.50 x 16.5 traction radials and look great, the spare has never been on the ground. I've put a couple hundred miles on and from what I can tell it's ready to use and enjoy. The truck appears to have a Dana 70 front and RA-15 rear (11" ring gear) and it's pretty low geared, I'm guessing 4.88, so don't plan on spending a lot of time on the Interstates, though it will cruise all day comfortably at 55mph. Pricing/Misc: I got a good deal on this rig and you will too. This is a very special truck. Utility, 4x4 and oddball rigs are the hot ticket right now at the big auctions, with the War Wagon Travelall going over $100k, but this truck is listed with a reserve under $6k for quick sale. Title is clear and in my name. The previous owner signed off the title with mileage as original, and based on that I'll do the same. I don't have separate, other documentation of mileage other than that legal statement on the title.
