In 1985, a 1967 A-code Mustang Fastback with all numbers matching 289 top loader 4-speed 4-barrell and factory air, deluxe interior with brushed aluminum panels, console on ceiling with map lights, and glove compartment light, and a very rare aluminum louver across the back of the car between the taillights, was locked away in a dark, cold cement floored machine shop until 2008 when I found her, bought her, and brought her home. I started to slowly bring her back to life. With her engine, brakes, and shifting linkage all locked up, this was going to be a slow venture. To start, I pulled the engine and transmission and tucked them away in the corner. Pulled the brake lines, fuel lines and fuel tank and threw that all away. Pulled all the shocks, brakes and whole front suspension and threw that away. The brake pedals and clutch assembly was worn out and sloppy, so I pulled all of that out and threw it away. Pulled the master cylinder and radiator and threw that away. Basically, started with a shell. We installed a new pedal assembly, new master cylinder, new brake lines, fuel lines, and fuel tank. New front suspension with disc-wheel conversion and front brakes. New springs and shocks. New 17 inch rims, tires and lug nuts with 4-wheelv alignment. They do NOT rub! Installed new 4-core aluminum radiator. The decision was made to start with a new engine instead of rebuilding the original 289. We stroked a 351 Windsor to a 408. It was dyno tested in his shop with 478hp and 520ft/lbs of torque. I have the dyno printouts to prove this. I have all receipts and parts lists of the engine build. She is not for the faint of heart or a high school kids first car. Matching number 289 engine also comes with car. New Zoom clutch Pressure plateThrow out bearingScatter shield Bell housing After taking it apart and inspecting it, it was determined that the original transmission was in great condition. New seals, fluids, gear lube was added. After reassembly, the transmission was thoroughly cleaned, repainted. So now we reinstalled the new engine and transmission using new motor and transmission mounts and converted to a hydraulic clutch. We determined for now to stick with the original Ford 8-inch rear end. So we put the drive shaft back under it with new U-joints. She is alive and rumbling!! And awfully loud with open headers. At this point I put on dual exhaust with Flo-Master mufflers. Now she purrs with that low throat sound like a lioness. We determined that with so much horsepower and torque that we needed to tie the frame together. Heidts Chassis Stiffener Track Bar to Frame Steel Natural Bolt-In w/ drive shaft loop (part #RM-023) was used. Now, about her body… I have taken a lot of pictures in various stages of this project. Please look carefully at all pictures and ask questions. Keep in mind, it is a 47 year old car that is unrestored. There is some minor rusting in the front floor boards with some holes approx. the size of a 50 cent piece. It is a VERY solid car. There are some dings, dents and scratches. The original hood does not fit due to the taller 351 Windsor engine. The paint buffed out very nicely given the age of the car. It has a nice shine when cleaned up. The parts of the body painted black was done due to the fact that a new hood had to be built and while the car was stored all those years, a rafter in the machine shed fell on top of the car right above the windshield, leaving a dent about the size of a football and busting the windshield. The dent was pulled and the hood, roof and trunk deck were painted by professionals. The windshield was replaced with a factory 1967 windshield. Headliner was removed due to having to fix the roof and mice got into the liner and ate some holes in the liner underneath the visors. I still have all original liner and rails. The car was originally equipped with factory air, but it is not installed at this time. I have tried to give as accurate of a description as possible. I have tried to list everything to give you an idea of the time/money put into the car. This is still a project. The carb and clutch could use some fine-tuning. It runs straight down the highway. I have only put maybe up to 100 miles on her after getting all this work done. I have just run out of time and ambition. She needs someone who will finish what I started. I have all receipts and a Marti report which lists the original equipment for this car. All are included with this sale. This car is being sold AS-IS!! There are no warranties.
