A lifetime member of both the National Corvette Museum Foundation and the Indianapolis 500 organizing committee who attended the Indianapolis 500 an amazing 70 times, Mr. McDonald placed this Corvette in his collection in May 1964, where it remained until his passing in 2013. The car attended the Indy 500 Festival every year during that time along with Mr. McDonald’s other Corvettes. Mr. McDonald restored the Corvette in 1974 at a cost of approximately $2,800, during which it was refinished in Tuxedo Black lacquer and the coves and hardtop in Inca Silver. The headliner, seats and carpets were also renewed along with many other details, all of which are documented in the extensive restoration records that accompany the car. Powered by the new-for-1957 283/283 HP Rochester fuel-injected small block V-8 – complete with rare code 905 distributor – this Corvette is equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission installed during the restoration to replace the original 3-speed. The car still wears the paint applied in 1974 and features a very rare AC column-mounted tachometer in the magnificent Red interior. More than just a superb vintage Corvette, the car is accompanied by extensive and fascinating documentation that includes the aforementioned restoration receipts, owner’s manual and sales brochure, the 1964 title, 1957 GM fuel injection brochure and, perhaps most significantly, an extremely rare Chevrolet training film for the 1957 model year lineup.
