Vehicle Detail

This is a "NO RESE$RVE" auction. However, the car is also for sale locally. This restored Beetle has less than 200 miles on it since completion. It has not been raised, lowered, sliced, diced, channeled, cut, chopped, or fricasseed. I have attempted to keep it as original as possible and have only used top quality VW, OE and aftermarket parts from sources such as Wolfsburg West. Cheap, third world parts were never used. In my description, the letters WW indicate the part was a Wolfsburg West part. I used them because their parts fit correctly and they last. Other included extras: One Prospero's Garage, color, laminated, wiring diagram for 1966 Beetle. Three pieces of antique luggage. One large Samsonite and two smaller Towncraft suitcases. Three vintage satin pillows with fringe. These are not period correct for the Beetle, but they are quite interesting and look great in the back seat. The first is from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. The second is from the CCC at West Orange, New York. The third is from Salt Lake City and features pictures of the Mormon Temple and other historical sights. One Bentley, official service manual for 1966 VW Beetle. Near new condition. Two new (in boxes) front shock absorbers. KYB gas shock absorber Excel-G. Made in Japan. Part number 343144. One vintage Scotch Kooler. One antique, galvanized water jug with cork stopper. One antique (steel) Coca Cola cooler with two vintage bottle openers. One opener is attached to the side of the box and another hangs from a string externally. One hemp style rope for attaching luggage to roof rack. I don't think ratchet straps and bungee cords were available back in 1966. This Beetle has been used in parades and is always a big hit with the luggage rack and antique items. At one St. Patrick's day parade, a bystander ran up to the senior driver (me) and laid a big lip lock on me. Talk about a chick magnet! Either that or I've still got 'it'! Nonetheless, this is a true story. (Results may vary depending on the driver). When not doing parades, the car has always been garaged. There is probably less than 200 miles on the car since restoration, so most everything is new. The engine was completely overhauled with new jugs, pistons, heat exchanger, muffler, tailpipes and who knows what else. The overhaul was done properly and the car has been driven long enough to know that there are no problems with it. It starts promptly and runs strongly. No smoke, funny sounds, or other noises. The break in oil has yet to be changed. The car has been converted to 12 volts and a complete new bumper to bumper wiring harness has been installed along with new relays, etc. The car also has an excellent Interstate battery. The floor pans and heater channels are rock solid. The floors were painted with POR 15 and a layer of B Quiet (almost identical to Dynamat) was placed over that. Then on top of that I placed new TMI carpet with pad. New TMI door panels and upholstery were added along with all new door handles, escutcheons, sunvisors and headliner. Brakes have been redone with new soft brake hoses, four new wheel cylinders and a new master cylinder. They brake well and should not b-r-e-a-k for a long, long time. (Look that up in your Funk and Wagnall's) Tires are brand new Yokohamas with Atlas porta walls. They work well and get much attention. The wide white walls were used on most all cars in 1966 and are period correct. The wheels are also correct and they have been sandblasted and painted the correct two tone colors for the 1966 Beetle. Sorry, no spinning, glow-in-the-dark, 24" monkey wheels here. New CV joints and new boots have been installed. The transmission works well and as it should. I installed a new Sachs clutch to include pressure plate, disc and throw out bearing and a new clutch cable. New parking light housings, reflectors, and lenses along with new tail light trim, lenses and reflectors. New front seat belts with VW Wolfsburg crest buckles. New horns and horn grills. Accessories: New fender bright trim for both front and rear fenders. New door handle guards. Air vent grille. New red, vent window 'breezies'. These also were a period correct accessory which was put on many cars. New shift lever lock with two keys. New WW luggage rack. There is also an added 12 volt electrical socket added to the dash (used for GPS only) No smoke. The front bumper is a new WW item that is correct for 1966. It includes all correct items with bumper bar, uprights, and bumper overrider bars. No parts missing. In fact, I also replaced the bumper attachment bars along with new rubber grommets. The bumper is a quality item that will not rust out in ten minutes like the lookalikes made in third world countries. The chrome plating is excellent. The rear bumper is believed to be original. I polished it and bought it back to very good condition. Both bumper mounting bars have been replaced with new ones along with new rubber grommets. Wipers have been converted to 12 volts with a new 12Volt ,WW armature in an original SWF motor. The original wiper arms have been sandblasted and repainted as original. New ANCO wiper blades have been installed. All the glass is good with no chips, cracks, streaks, or other flaws. The windshield is new with a light tint at the top. Windshield, back glass and rear windows all have new WW rubber seals and none leak. The flip-out back windows have both new WW inner and outer seals. The rear windows also have new WW flip-out latches, knobs and hinges. All exterior window trim has new 'chrome' inserts in the rubber. The front spare tire pan is straight and solid. It appears to be accident free. See pictures. Conclusion: The car looks great, runs great and is dependable. Unfortunately, you probably won't be able to take it to Pebble Beach for the Concours de Elegance unless you park it in the parking lot and walk in to the show. It's not perfect, so please don't expect perfection. I'm sure there are many other items that were replaced but there were so many items I just can't remember them all. At a minimum, you can expect everything listed here and consider all my "forgots" as bonuses to your purchase. The paint looks great but still needs touch up in a few places and further polishing in some areas. The radio has been tested 'good' but still needs an antenna cable and a new speaker. (Relatively inexpensive items). The front door windows need new rubber. * Please note: The front Mississippi novelty tag is not included in this sale. For Mississippi buyers: The car does have an antique designated Mississippi tag and of course, a clear Mississippi title is included. All other buyers: Since the car does have a clear title, you probably do not have to deal with the "Bill of sale" hassles in registering in your state. If you want a bill of sale along with the title, I'll be glad to provide that also. Buy with confidence. I have good feedback and want to keep it that way. I don't believe in misrepresenting things in the name of 'just business'. A lie is still a lie no matter how one justifies it. How can we be true to ourselves if we are not true to others?
