Vehicle Detail

1965 Ford Mustang Fastback NO RESERVE Hi, thanks for stopping by and checking out my 1965 Mustang Fastback. When the Mustang came out in April, 1964 as a 1965 Model, you could only get a Coupe or Convertible. The fastback came out later and it was a complete hit, and still is the most sought after Mustang. It was also the base model for the Shelby GT350, I can only dream of one of those now, maybe a 1966 but they are spendy as well. I love first year models, I have owned a lot of fastbacks, but 1965 is my year, just love them, bought my first one right after high school, 1988, and have been hooked ever since. This Fastback, is in very good shape, I would call it a very nice driver, it runs great, you can drive it and enjoy it, take it to the local shows and cruise inns and just have a great time. It is not a concours car, or a high point, $40-60K show car, just a very nice driver. Fastbacks are hard to fine, and anytime I have one, people just want to get around it and look, no exception with this little fastback. This is a factory V8, C code 289, that has been upgraded with a 4v Intake and Carb. It has factory AC, everything is intact, pump is free, but no belt on it, I would imagine it might need recharged or a new pump, best thing it is all there, and easy to get working again. Last pump I bought for a 289 car, actually in a falcon I own, cost around $350 for the new pump. This car also has Pony Interior, which is a nice add, and Dual GT Exhaust Trumpets, and Magnum 500 wheels. The odometer reads 53429, assume the odometer as rolled over once, since these years only had 5 digits. This is a nice car that you can have fun with, please view all the pictures over 100, ask questions if you like, or just give me a call. This is a NO RESERVE Auction, meaning that every bid counts, the highest bid at the end gets it. The body on this fastback is very straight. It was painted in the late 90's and overall it looks to be in good shape, has a nice gloss to it. Out in the sun it is a metallic white, and looks great. When you look down the sides it pretty straight. Under shop lights in a garage, you can see certain imperfections nothing major, but you can tell it is not a perfect respray on it, but overall for a very nice driver it looks great. The passenger quarter panel has been replaced, not sure if that was done during the paint job in 2002 or earlier. There is some bubbling in the bottom corner of the passenger door upfront pretty common in these cars. One thing it needs is to have the door jams, cleaned up a little, there are some little bubbling in some of the seams. It needs to be cleaned out good, treated, sealed and repaint the door jams and trunk gutter. The roof gutters around the front windshield and rear window are excellent, and round the side vents. The trunk gutter, on the drivers side needs to be cleaned and repaired. Overall not a bunch of work, something you could do in your home garage, and drive the car at the same. You could probably get away with just repainting the jams and call it good, because the rest of the paint on the car is decent, and I would not repaint it until it really needed it, I would just drive it and enjoy it, and do little things here and there to make it a nicer car as you go. The panels all line up pretty well, the doors shut nice, fenders lineup nicely. The trunk lid on passenger side is out of adjustment, and needs a little refitting, but overall car is straight. No signs of any major accidents, inner aprons under the hood look good, and are original, radiator support looks good. The rear taillight panel, frame rails all look in good shape, no signs of accidents, inner door jams are solid with no damage as well. Overall this is a very structurally sound car and in good shape. The floors and frame rails look very good in the car. The only small issue is the drivers rear frame rail on the side, there is a dime size spot of rust next to a bolt. Rest of the frame rails look good, this is something that if you wanted to fix it, cut a 2" x 2" out frame rail and patch it, easy to do. It is not a structure problem, just a spot I noticed, pretty minor. The floors and all structural stuff underneath looks very good, I was actually very surprised because a lot of Mustangs have a lot of floor patches, not often you find one with original solid floors, nice rockers, and rails. The only areas were I think they may have patched a little is were the front floors meet the bottom of the firewall, there is a seam there, on each side, common area, there is some heavier undercoating there, and can not tell if they were patched, were are talking about a small area maybe a 1" by 8" strip. The drivers door, at the inner corner not seen outside, has some rust in it, see picture of it. Inside the trunk is solid, but the spare tire hold down, someone did some bad welding around it, if you want to later take it out and redo it, it would look a lot nice, but who is going to see it, not a pressing thing to fix, but could use attention down the road. Overall the a nice looking car from 10' away, when you get up close and really want to inspect it, you could find some flaws, but to me, I think it looks great for what it is. The interior is in good shape, it has full Pony interior, correct pony marker light doors (lights not working currently may be bulbs have not checked, just looked), door panels, seats, wood grain instrument cluster and glove box door. Overall the interior looks very nice for a driver, way above average. What it needs, the carpet is decent, but it is showing its age, this is the first thing you might want to change down the road. The headliner has quarter size hole in it, otherwise it is perfect for its age. The rear seat is decent, but has some discoloration, but I would not change it personally. The rear hatch has not been cut, and inner quarter panels are nice, a lot of people like to put speakers in these, but this car survived it. The carpet on the fold down seat has faded as well, but you can get that with a carpet kit if you choose later on. All the gauges are working besides the fuel gauge. Interior underdash lights work as well, and horn. Wipers and horn work as well. The AC unit fan does turn on, but like I mentioned before the pump under the hood is free, but no belt on it. I have never messed around with seeing what it will take to get it working, good thing everything is in the car, and did work at one time, so that is a good thing, and workable in the future. Overall, a clean interior non smoker, in good useable shape, that you wouldn't mind taking your significant other out on a date in. Mechanically it seams to be in pretty nice shape. It is a 289 under the hood, I believe it might be the original engine, that has been upgraded with a 1964 289 4V Ford Intake manifold and a 4v carb, originally a 2v car, but who's complaining I like more power just like anyone else, plus it looks factory. It has Cobra finned aluminum valve covers, which look very nice. The engine runs very good, it starts right up, does not burn any oil, or blow smoke, very clean running little car. Has a nice sound out of the dual exhaust with trumpets. It has a new H pipe installed, but it could use new mufflers underneath they are okay, but they have a few small holes in the end, you can't hear them leaking, just noticed it while on my lift. They also could use a little aligning better. When on my lift with the rear axle hanging down, the driveline is almost touching them, but when on the ground they are about 3" away, so on my lift they look really close. The transmission shifts very nice and smooth, original Cruise-O-Matic, so you drive in the green dot position. The rear end I am not sure the ratio it is a highway gear. The brakes seem to be working good, no noise, they do not pull, they stop nice and straight. Overall mechanically it seems to be in good shape. I think just routine maintenance on it in the future will be all it needs, if you take car of it. It has GT fog lamps on it, they are all wired up from what I can see, but there is no switch inside, I have looked, not sure if someone installed them and didn't put a switch in yet, or maybe I am losing it, lol. The back up lights, turnsignals all work, headlights etc. The wheels are 14X7 Magnum 500's they look nice on the car, there is some small pitting on the wheels, but if you keep them clean, they will look nice. As I mentioned in the lower pictures, I switch the caps out to correct 1965 Mustang caps, the other ones were not fitting correctly. The tires are in very nice shape, around 80% tread on them. Please read the auction and view the pictures many times hard to mention every detail on a car, thank goodness for pictures. If you have questions let me know I would be glad to answer them for you.
