Vehicle Detail

They say a car can be restored 100 times but is only original once. This straight eight Packard 120 sedan was built in 1937 when at the end of the depression such luxury was finally made available to the working man. It has been well preserved over the years and always garaged. The dash board, gauges, optional factory radio mohair seats and headliner as well as door panels are all original and unaltered. Although the gas gauge and clock are not working. The windows are all operative and some are delightfully colored by time. This old timer sits and waits patiently for the good weather that allows it to go for an occasional drive. The car has 1937 license plates that are non opt but she does sneak out now and then locally. The six volt starter fires up the old straight eight motor that purrs smoothly until warm enough to go for a quiet drive. I turn on the old radio and listen to the hum that precedes the music. I enjoy washing her graceful curves revealing her stately and elegant Packard grille and hood. The roof still has a fabric insert that graces her top. (and hides the stock radio antenna). The running boards could be recovered but they have been content for the last 77 years and might very well serve another 50. And the cloth interior although worn in areas is the soft original that virtually hugs you like Grandma's arms. Once again warmth comfort and beauty have prevailed over cheesy recovering. Many years ago she was repainted and since has acquired a couple of blemishes as you can see in the photos and the passing of time has lent a patina to the paint as well as the chrome. Many folks would say it needs a complete restoration to be a show winner. But others that enjoy a comfortable classic accept the passage of time and make the repairs as they become necessary. Let the photos be your guide. She cruises out the highways at 60 and is smooth as a luxury liner. Mileage shows 53830. Hard to tell if its accurate, but I cannot believe its been around. I can no longer afford to maintain this luxury auto on my social security. My name is Jim and I am anxious to answer any questions or arrange a viewing. thanks, Jim
