Vehicle Detail

Dreaming of a 1969-71 280SE 3.5 cabriolet, but don’t want to spend $100,000+? I might have the car for you...I'm selling my triple black 280SE 3.5L "clone", which was built from an original 1963 220SE Cabriolet about 15 years ago. All of the body and mechanical parts needed to make a 220SE look and drive like a 1969-71 low-grill 280SE 3.5 were changed , with only a few 220SE features to tip off those who know their Benz. Mechanically, they added the correct the 3.5L V8 engine (1969 vintage), 4-spd floor shift automatic, 4 wheel disk brakes, "Bundt" alloys, etc. Outside, they changed both front and rear bumpers, added the correct grill, hood, the fenders; and the necessary rad support. Inside, they changed the front seats, center console and radio. It also has period add-on A/C (which I converted to R134a).During the conversion, body was re-done professionally during the conversion, colours changed from white/red to black/black/black. Front seats recovered, the rest of the interior is dyed black.Overall, it’s a good driver, with solid paint and decent chrome. Selling the car because I just don't have time for it anymore, and have other projects to tackle. Contact me with questions if you are serious: scott@digitalretailapps.com. On May-23-14 at 16:03:58 PDT, seller added the following information: As I've gotten a number of questions, I want to make sure I'm totally clear on the car & it's current condition. Was the conversion was done properly? The car ISN'T a conversion, it wasn't a coupe at any point. It was always a convertible. Is there any rust? No, but there have been rust repairs to the rear subframe. & trunk. These are pretty typical spots for these cars in our area. All the repairs were done before I bought the car. Do I have the original 220SE parts? I bought the car pretty much as you see it, which also means I don't have any of original parts. Who did the work? The previous owner paid local MB shops to build the car. As I told the bidders I've talked to on the phone, while the car looks great and drives ok (drove it last night) it does have things that need to be addressed. If you are looking for a perfect car, this isn't it. But there's nothing serious either:The interior looks ok, but has cracked varnish, loose trim, etc. Needs some TLCThe carpets, floor mats, and rubber trunk mat are missingThe rubber seals are oldTires are 10 years oldThe trunk won't stay up, the previous owner put struts (like a modern car), and one isn't workingThere's a 2" tear in the top over the passenger windowEngine needs a tuneThe A/C is not working well, probably needs a charge (I never use it) I do have a rebuilt 3.5 engine that I picked up with a load of parts from Atlanta, that could go with the car. It sat outside, so would need to be gone through. On May-25-14 at 20:08:10 PDT, seller added the following information: It's passed the reserve, so by tomorrow night, this car will have a new owner. I took some additional pictures of the trunk, floor pans and frame for a bidder today, showing the condition and the past repairs, email me if you'd like to see them. I also realized that I forgot to mention that the Becker radio is disconnected. Previous owner's DIY stereo wiring was a mess. If you have any questions, feel free to email me tomorrow or call me if you've reached out and have my mobile number.
