Vehicle Detail

1980 JEEP CJ-7 LAREDO - 1st Year of the Laredo NO RESERVE Thank you for checking out my 1980 Jeep CJ7 Laredo 4x4. This is the first year of the Laredo package on the desirable CJ7 Jeeps. This Laredo spent all of its life in California since new, up until about 8 months ago, when it came to Oregon. This Jeep is very dry, original floors, body panels, are in nice shape, never replaced due to rust. All the floors and inner seams are very nice, no pitting on the floors, very clean sheet metal, all the seams inside clean, or rust pitting. California treated this Jeep very well. This CJ7 has the Inline 6 AMC 4.2L engine, which is bullet proof, and they also came with the desirable 4 speed manual which put a smile on every ones face when it came to making it funner to drive. Its spent most of its life in the Sacramento, CA area, Carmichael to be exact. The Second owners bought it around 1990. It is believed that it has 36,481 miles on it, I have no documentation on the mileage, so assume Odometer has went over once. With that said, it is in very good condition, it is not rusty, it has been repainted, and the seats have been recovered. I have seen perfect Examples fetch upwards in the low $20's. This is a nice Driver, and a very good example that has not been beat up, and someone could take it to the next level with very little effort. Overall I would call it a very nice driver, that you can get out and enjoy, but you would still want to park it out away from other cars in a parking lot. It would be fun to take to local cruise ins, and just enjoy it as well, like it was built for. This is a NO RESERVE Auction, meaning, that I am starting the bidding at $19.80 and letting it roll, what ever it sells for at the end, and if you are the High Bidder, it is yours. I will try my best to describe it, I have included 75 pictures of it so you can get a good idea of what it is. It was been repainted about 10 years ago, the original color, and for the most part, it looks to be holding up well. It is a base/clear repaint, so it has a very nice gloss to it. They did a decent job on repainting it. These vehicles did not have a lot of body work done from the factory, the Jeep bodies, had waves in the sheet metal, factory the spot weld exposed and did not cover them up on the outer panels, much like you see on Land Rover's and Land Cruisers as well, so you can see them still there today in various areas were they joined seams together and such. This Jeep is very solid, has amazing floors, and inner structure, it is not rusty and does not look to have any rust repairs done to it that I can see. The frame is very solid as well. The fenders are all in good shape, nice and straight, and no signs of any accident damage. The paint, could use a good wet sanding, with 2000 or 2500 paper, and buffed, it looks good, but there are some imperfections in the paint, like around the windshield area and cowl, were the clear has a little orange peal to it, with that said, for 10-15' feet away it looks really nice, even upclose it looks nice, but a trained eye will notice things here and there. It was never repainted to make it a show rig, just new paint to make it look fresh again. It has been driven so there are tiny chips and small scratches here and there. When I look at vehicles like this, what I am looking for is the inner structure areas, that tells me a lot. The floors are amazing, the trans tunnel, front and rear seat perches are in excellent shape no rust. For a vintage Jeep it is in really good shape, many of these suffered from rust issues, but this one obviously must have been kept indoors for part of its life. The chrome on it is in decent shape, nice and shiny, the rocker moldings have some scratches and were on them. The fender flares are in nice shape. The hardtop is decent, but it does have some issues with it, it functions well, but looks like the pervious owner, made some repairs, to the texturing of it, and did not get it exactly right, you can see in the pictures, it is a good top, but most likely you will have it off of the Jeep in the summers, comes with a Bikini Top as well. The plexi glass on top has a few scratches of scuff marks, the passenger side glass has the most though. It has a sunroof on top, that someone added. It is okay, but since it is there, I would probably remove it, and buy a good aftermarket one for it and have it installed. The one that is in, look a little homemade, it functions though. Overall the body is in good shape for its age. The interior is in good shape, the seats are very nice. The door panels are original, and in nice condition. The drivers side has some scuffs marks on it. The doors, look like they had some stress cracks up at the top near wing window, guess that was a common problem. Someone tried to fix them, and painted the areas, but the paint does not look that great. The dash area is in nice shape. All the gauges work, even the clock keeps good time. The radio does not work. The original Laredo Dash pad, is in good shape for original but it does have some small cracks in it. The steering wheel is decent but it could use a good restoration. Overall the interior is very clean for a vehicle that is 34 years old, it is pleasant to ride in, it is smoke free as well. Mechanically it seems to be in good shape. Looks to have the original Inline AMC 4.2 L in it, these are great engine. It does not smoke, or burn any oil. No signs of any major oil leaks, on the ground. Has normal gasket seepage, and residue like you see on any vintage engine, even newer cars, you see residue after a few years. The engine, starts right up, and runs smooth. It may need a little carb adjustment, at idle it seems to idle a little to slow, just a small tap on throttle and it is good. I am not to good with carbs, pretty minor, it really does not effect the drivability of it. It has very good power and acceleration as well. The transmission is original, 4 spd manual which is a must in one of these rigs, feels nice and tight. The brakes work good as well. I am not to familiar with Jeeps in general, but it does wonder a bit out on the road, I am sure with the larger tires and stuff on it, it can tend to do that, again, you get used to it, but maybe a short wheel based rig, you feel it more out on the road. The more I drive it the more I get used to it. Mechanically I think that it is fairly sound, no issues that I would address right away. To me, maybe a tuneup, and just do routine maintenance in general. The tires are in decent shape, but the tread is getting down there a little, if you plan to drive it a lot, then maybe get some by next winter or spring. All the exterior lights work, even the back up lights are working. Please read the auction and view the pictures many times, if you have questions let me know I would be glad to answer them for you.
