Barn Find ! 1963 DNEPR k-750 650cc flathead 2 Wheel Drive Original Russian military motorcycle with sidecar. I found this in a old fellas barn in the country. He collected interesting things and had about 5 barns. this was covered in a pile of old bikes. It did not run when i got it. I rebuilt the carbs and replaced the solenoid and it fired right up. It has plenty of power and is actually much more trailworthy than I would have expected. Everything is here even the shovel on the side. I have also included the service manual. It was used as advertising for Car Pool somewhere along the line. I assume this as the owner of Car Pool collected unique vehicles like jeepsters etc. I have not done anything to clean this up. This would clean up real nice with just a little attention. It needs tires and there is a squeaking noise that sounds like a bird when running. That has gotten better over time. Below is some history on the bike. I have about 14 old vintage bikes I am cleaning up. This thing is so big it takes up most of the space in my small garage. You are looking at a vintage Motorcycle 1963 DNEPR k-750 650cc. Vehicle was recently serviced, So It's in good running condition and ready to go! This is an original and very complete early series Dnepr with glide 4 speed trans. with reverse. It was never a kit or assembled bike. Clear standard title .Lots of the Dnepr projects seen in the US are collections of scrapped parts loosely assembled and called bikes. a properly-built military Dnepr is a far better outfit than the civilian Ural. Motor number and original data plate match.. Odometer shows about 14,000 km This was the kind of bike used in Indiana Jones. Scroll all the way down for the history on this bike. A secret meeting was held in the Defense Ministry of the USSR. The matter under discussion, what model of motorcycles was going to be the most suitable for Soviet Armed Forces. Now despite the fact that plan was peacefully split between two dictators right after the Molotov/von Ribbentrop pact, the Soviet Union, to be more specific Joseph Stalin, knew it would soon be going to war with Adolph Hitler, the ruthless dictator of the German Third Reich. Most recent historic research proves that Joseph Stalin being as much a ruthless dictator as Adolph Hitler himself, if not more, was planning on striking the Nazis first, Joseph Stalin ordered the military to prepare all areas of operation, including ground forces. During the same time period there was also, unknown to the majority of the world, tremendous growth in the Soviet Air Force that would enable the Soviet Army to strike the Nazis first with a devastating surprise attack. Having seen the effects of Blitzkrieg (lighting war) against Poland, upgrading of military vehicles was of dominant importance to Joseph Stalin. Official version reads, after long discussion the BMW R71 motorcycle was found the closest match to the specific requirements and five of these motorcycles were secretly acquired in Sweden. Everything about the bike was reverse engineered and in early 1941 the first trial samples of M-72 motorcycles were shown to Marshall Stalin and the decision was made to produce them. Unofficially, and a more likely story is that the BMW factory supplied the construction drawings and casting molds. Transfers in technology had taken place, as a result of the Molotov/Ribbentrop Pact, in support of their soviet friends in different areas. Soviet engineers toured the German aircraft factories and had brought back complete cannons as samples. The OPEL Kadett was given to the Soviets just prior to the war however, it commenced series production only toward the end of the war as the Moskvitch 400. In 1941, BMW began series production the R75, and did not resume production of the R71. After WWII the Factory was further developed and in 1950 the 30,000th motorcycle was produced. Since then over 3.2 million motorcycles, mainly sidecar outfits have been produced. The history of the URAL had begun with the glory of helping to defeat the terror of Hitler's armies on the Russian and European battlefields. The URAL was built for the military only, up until the late 1950's when another plant in the Ukraine (Kiev Motorcycle Zavod - KMZ) took over that job with same model, but different name - DNEPR and the Irbit Motorcycle Zavod (IMZ) began to concentrate on making bikes for domestic consumption. Today both plants manufacture bikes for domestic as well as for military needs. Dnepr Classic Motorcycles Dnepr is the brand name of heavy motorcycles produced in Kiev, Ukraine. Motorcycles have been produced in Kiev since 1946 at the Kiev Motorcycle Plant. Initial production was of a 98cc 2-stroke model that was confiscated from the German firm Wanderer as reparations. The original design for KMZ heavy motorcycles, and their cousin the IMZ, is taken from the pre-WWII German BMW motorcycle R71, which the Soviet Union licensed in 1940. The plant and equipment needed to make the M-72 (the Soviet derivative of the BMW R71) was transferred from the Gorkiy Motorcycle Plant (Gorky Mototsikletniy Zavod, GMZ located in the city of Gorkiy (Nizhny Novgorod) in 1949. The first batch of M-72 motorcycles was produced in 1952 with the supply of 500 engines from IMZ. In 1958 KMZ replaced the plunger framed M72-N with the swingarm framed K-750. (This frame may have been modeled after the post 1955 BMW duplex frame). In 1964 KMZ introduced a military model, the MV-750 with a differential two-wheel drive to the sidecar wheel. In 1967, to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, KMZ released their first OHV engine in the "Dnepr" K-650. Unlike the earlier sidevalve engines with their roller bearing crankshafts, this engine featured a sleeve bearing crankshaft as found in the WWII Zündapp KS750. The K-650 was superseded by model MT-9 650cc, which was available in both solo and sidecar models (often referred to as the best "Cossack" as it was reliable and had all the good features. The MT-10 was the first Soviet motorcycle to feature 12 volt electrics. The Dnepr is famous for its off-road capability. Armed services models equipped with sidecars had two-wheel drive and as much as fifteen centimetres (6 in) of ground clearance. The present engine is a 650cc OHV boxer twin. Modern models are sold with engines ranging from the factory standard 650 to 750 and 1000cc. Some models have been spotted sporting aftermarket 1000 Hatz diesel, BMW, and even VW car engines. These motorcycles have featured in many films like Indiana Jones and used prominently in the movie Garden State, with Zach Braff. Between 1973 and 1979 Dnepr was one of the makes marketed by Satra in the United Kingdom as Cossack motorcycles. Since demise of U.S.S.R. the factory had fallen on very hard times. Production decreased to only remnants of former glory. All shops were closed, and machine tools were taken out of the city limits.
