Vehicle Detail

I know this car was supposed to be sold, but the deal didn't work out....so here we go again. Up for sale today is a 1968 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 4 door. This is my father in laws car and he is no longer able to enjoy it, as it should be enjoyed, due to some health issues. I will list all the facts I know about the car. It is in good condition given the age of the car. It is a 4 door without the post, which makes it look almost as cool as a 2 door. It shows 60839 miles on the odometer, but I can not say that is correct except the car is in REALLY NICE shape if it has 160839 miles on it. It is green with a newer black vinyl top and green cloth interior. It's powered by a 327/250 horse engine and has a Powerglide transmission and factory posi-traction rear end, with power brakes. The drive train is "numbers matching" to the best of our knowledge. It still has exhaust manifolds, the cables installed in case of a motor mount failure and correct carb. The water pump has been replaced as has the radiator and exhaust from the manifolds back. The engine seems to start and run fine. It is an older carb motor, so it can be fussy in the cold start up mode. Let it run for a few minutes, once it gets a bit of heat in it, it runs pretty good. I drove it a few weeks ago, which was the first time in about a month that it was started. It idled fine, but was a bit lumpy when at a stop light in gear. The transmission seems to shift as it should. The brakes are fine and work as well as drum brakes should. The interior is in fair shape for its age. It has a nice headliner and dash. The steering wheel, which is a tilt steering wheel, has a crack and so does the dash pad. The gauge cluster looks nice. All the glass is in very nice clear condition. The rear package tray is "wavy" and could be replaced. The carpet is recent but was not cut correctly on the driver side front. Door panels are reasonably clean except for some water stains due to windows left rolled down a bit. They may clean up. They don't appear to have gotten wavy yet. The window seals are cracked but not bad enough for the door panels to have gotten wet from them. It still has its original AM/FM radio, I don't know how well it works. The clock does not work, but how many did after the first year or so? It is also missing the adjuster knob. The knob for the wipers is missing. The dome light was not working, but the lights under the dash were. and the dash lights worked. Back seat has water stains on both sides, but is in nice shape otherwise. Front seat needs to be recovered. It has torn in the seams, especially on the driver side. All seat belts are there and are original. The exterior has had a repaint a number of years ago. I think it just wasn't prepped right, because it is chipping in a few places near corners and moldings. There is a dent on the passenger front door, I think can be seen in the pictures. I don't know if it can be pulled out. I think it can, but I don't do body work. There is a chip on the front of the car. The only real obvious rust I can easily see is on the lower edge of the left rear quarter. The car came from Michigan, but was rust proofed when new and really has held up nicely for its age. I wasn't able to take pictures of the bottom of the car, but I did see it a few months back and it looks sound. The trunk looks sound, there was some water in the trunk on the driver side corner. The seal may be starting to leak and should be replaced. I have since looked around for the leak and I believe the corner cap or whatever it is called no longer seals to the quarter panel. It looks like the bumper was hit and forced upward at the left corner. While it hasn't cracked any body panels it upset the seal of that cap to the quarter. I don't have any pictures of that corner, but can take my camera and try to take a picture of what I am seeing. I was going to pull the trunk mat for a couple of pictures, but it seemed to be stuck. I did not want to tear it up trying to pull it back. The spare tire is a bias ply tire. I don't know if it is original. All of the turn signals, headlights, high beams, interior lights, except the dome light and backup lights work as does the horn and key buzzer. The under hood and trunk light also work. The car rides on stock steel wheels with all four original hub caps and newer radial tires which seem to have good thread left. It is missing the right rear wheel well opening molding but the others are there. All the chrome seems descent, there again the car is about 46 years old!! As I said, the top was recently replaced and shows no signs of rust under it. All the stainless moldings look very nice for a old car and I believe them to be original. Most reproductions are very thin and flimsy, I know they are on my Nova. These seem pretty sturdy. Besides the power steering, power brakes and posi, it also has an AM/FM radio, tilt wheel and I think tinted glass. I have a bunch of pictures but can't post them all SO PLEASE ask any questions and ask for more pictures and I will try to answer any questions and get more pictures to you. It is being offered as a "Buy it now" with a "Best Offer". I will be upfront with you, he does not sound like he will give it away, but will consider a "FAIR" offer. The car is available for inspection and if you are near the Concord NC area. Just mail me and we can set up an inspection. He does have a CLEAR title for the car in his possession. I can work with you on shipping arrangements if needed, but all arrangements are up to the buyer. I have had previous interest by overseas buyers, but just don't feel comfortable with that....SORRY. Thanks.
