1959 AMC RamblerAmazing Condition + Custom Power SteeringStraight 6 Engine, 3-Speed Push Button Transmission, Original Interior withComfy re-upholstered seats, 99% Original Chrome, Factory AC*, Service History including1959 bill of sale! Custom built Power Steering plus power brakes installed 2013. This gorgeous, unique car is mostly original and totally awesome. It was purchased new by a lady in Oklahoma in 1959 who had the car until she died in 1982. At that time she left the car to her grandson in Mesa, AZ who basically stored it until he sold it to a local realtor around 2010. She had the car for a year and put on less than 1000 miles before she sold it to another Sunday driver who had the car until I bought it last January 2013. Because of weak limbs caused by terminal cancer, I needed to have power steering and brakes installed if I wanted to drive this baby. I went for it. The brakes were no big deal but there was no comparable power steering from that time to pop into this model. The amazing mechanics at Vintage Auto Repair in Phoenix did the job using the box from a '70s Mustang and custom fabricating other parts. It steers and brakes like a dream. I've also had the fuel pump replaced with an electric one and new spark plugs. I've put on just about 2000 heavenly miles in the past year but my cancer has progressed badly and now I have to part with this baby ASAP. I paid $6000 last year for the car (a fair market price as the seller had higher offers but was so touched by my cancer story and my love for the car that she sold it to me) and have spent that much again on the steering, brakes, etc. I know I will not get back the $12000 that I have invested, but am trying to make my estate as simple as possible for my family so am selling it now for whatever I can get. I don't know a lot about cars. If you have technical questions, I will get my brother to try to help to answer. I can tell you, however, that due to shrinking materials over the years, the car does leak and burn oil. I looked into having it fixed but my brother's advice, given the little amount that I drove it, was to simply let it be and keep lots of oil on hand. This works fine, but if you like to fix cars you could work on it yourself and bring this car back to its original glory. Other small things are loose weather stripping around doors/windows. Some has been replaced but not all. A bit of the stitching on interior ceiling upholstery has come loose. I bought a curved needle to fix it myself but got too sick. All the windows and door knobs work. All original hardware there. The wonderful front seats, ahead of their time, still recline just great. * This model came with factory air conditioning. We didn't put Freon in to see if works but just from looking, mechanics said it looked good. The heater in the car works very well. As I said, I bought the car in Phoenix last winter. I am a Canadian and when I returned up north for the summer, we towed her up on a trailer. In November 2013 when I returned to Arizona to spend the winter, we towed her down again. I have no intention of taking her back to Canada due to my sickness. I'm ready to return to Canada (Saskatchewan) so need to sell her quickly to the highest bidder with the least hassle. By the way, the car's name is Rosie. Apparently that name was given by the original owner and has been used since. I have Rosie59 Arizona plates should someone local buy this very special car. More Info as per some of your questions Paint job and colorI don't know if original paint job. Some chips here and there. But does look like original 1959 Rambler color (used only in 1959) called Cotillion Mauve. CLICK HERE to see a 1959 Rambler wagon that appears to have same color scheme. Pale pink outside, darker pink inside. In the picture of the wagon, the "stripe" is painted in a color called Hibiscus". On my car, stripe is same color as rest of car. I don't know what this is about. If original buyer in 1959 wanted car this way, or if whole car was repainted Cottilion Mauve at some time later...no record of that. By the way, it looks like the car in the ad is Hibiscus with Cottillion Mauve trim. Note that the wagon with its rebuilt engine sold for almost $30,000. More picsI'm housebound so cannot. I have a few more distant shots from last summer but don't really give any more info. If I had a better listing, would have put higher starting bid. Sorry.
