Vehicle Detail
It breaks my heart to sell this truck. I have explored the continent in this truck and took INCREDIBLE care of it to make sure I would never wind up in rural Central America and be stuck. And you know what? It has ALWAYS started and NEVER let me down. Background: Let me begin with a little background. This truck was ordered in Epsom Green with a Gray Leather interior here in Southern California. It has spent its life here and is totally rust free. It was purchased on 1/24/1993 from Longo Toyota by a gentleman in the Pacific Palisades (an incredibly wealthy neighborhood in Los Angeles). I live only a few miles from him, so this truck never went far from home in ownership and never lived on the east coast in the snow/salt belt. When I bought this truck I wanted one thing: A truck that I would not have to modify, that would be dead reliable and I could take anywhere and explore the world. THIS is that truck. It has been ALL over the continent. It has NEVER been abused. Rule #1 of expedition is to guard your vehicle! It's your life line! I'll repeat: IT HAS NEVER BEEN ABUSED. It has never been off-roaded, despite it having been off road. What I mean by that is has NEVER been a truck to "watch what I can do!" or to try to climb boulders or to see how much it can be articulated or anything insane. check the underside picture. No boudering scars, smashed bits and pieces, etc. It has however found itself on dirt roads, forest paths, crossing shallow streams, exploring the coast, getting lost in villages in Mexico, in the forest of the NW USA and Canada, winding along mountain passes, packed with bags camping and strapped with boards surfing. It has seen the sunset in the Pacific and sunrise in the Atlantic. It has been shelter in the wind, a place to anchor a hammock, heat when the temperature drops into single digits and blessed A/C in the blistering heat of Death Valley. THIS truck has lived the life of what Toyota designed the Land Cruiser to be. To go everywhere, reliably and comfortably and have space and luxury. The Land Cruiser The Land Cruiser was originally built to be a military vehicle by the Japanese government through Toyota after World War II with the intention of reliablity and "go-anywhere" nature. As it evolved through the many generations, it gained more size, power, luxury and ability. This truck is chassis code FJ80, also known as the 80 Series. This is the same chassis that Toyota took to the Dakar Rally (arguably the most challenging and hardest adventure race on the planet) and WON. They took two UNMODIFIED FJ80 and won first and second in unmodified production class. That's what these trucks are made out of!!! Nearly every single car, truck, expedition, off-road or adventure magazine or resource ALL agree that the FJ80 is one of the best adventure, expedition or off road vehicles ever made. And generally, its top 3, if not #1. Aside from its full time 4WD, the FJ80 came stock with center locking diff and for those doing the trickier off roading, front and rear locking diffs. The underside of each truck is lined with protective plating to cover the trans, engine, gas tank and other areas. It is a solid axle front and rear and is a true frame on body SUV. As Jalponik (likely the #1 car blog) says: the FJ80 is "One of the finest overland vehicles ever constructed, has quality construction, design and materials and world-class durability" The Condition and Service: This truck has been ENTHUSIASTICALLY, PROFESSIONALLY and ACTIVELY maintained and serviced and is a high standard for FJ service! Let's start on the engine and drivetrain: This engine and truck have LOW MILES (8,000 a year), only 168,000 miles appear on the odometer and the entire truck shows the same care. These engines and trucks are known to go 300,400,500k+ miles without ever needing to service the bottom end. There has been A TON of scheduled and preventive maintenance performed to this truck to keep in near brand new condition. I wanted this engine to always be at the height of its durability and reliability and it has been BULLETPROOF. The engine is very healthy and has loads of smooth power! This is the 4.5L I6 which made 212hp @4600rpm and 275ft lbs of tq @3200rpm. -HEAD GASKET As part of preventive service, this truck received a brand new OEM head gasket and OEM headbolts. The truck runs COOL as can be and has never overheated. Some Land Cruisers saw some head gaskets failures from the factory. THIS was NOT the case here, solely done in order to not roll the dice when 1000's of miles from home AC on in the desert and the temp needle never moves. The head was freshen up while off too! New valve stem seals, decked, cleaned and pressure tested! Everything checked out great too. Ready to go 300/400/500k+ miles for the life of the engine and then some!!! -UPPER AND LOWER ENGINE GASKETS While being serviced, the valve cover gasket, upper intake gaskets and crank seal, all resealed among a few other minor seals. NONE of these were leaking, but were done in order to keep with the same high regard and care. -LOWER ENGINE Great shape, no knocks, noises or mechanical issues!! Check the underside pic! (PS there is no rust what you are seeing in brown is just some light dirt) -HOSES Replaced the PHH or pesky heater hose! This is the hose that when it goes is a pain to access. As part of preventative maintenance it was replaced and ready to go for the life of the truck! Also the truck has had most all of the vacuum hoses, breather, cooling and peripheral hoses replaced. -THERMOSTAT New thermostat replaced during full servicing! -IGNITION Brand new and wires! -EMERGENCY BRAKE Recently adjusted and tight, only a couple notches on the handle holds the truck tight -TRANSMISSION/ The trans was just given all new fluid and shifts great! Upgraded to brand new OEM 1 and 2 shift solenoids! Shifts are crisp and wonderful. -DIFFS New gear oil in the diffs and no clunks, bangs or noises! These are not lockers - never needed them since that's a totally different form of off roading for what I used this truck for. -SWIVEL BALLS Fresh grease and great shape! -WIRING HARNESS The wiring harness on the Land Cruiser makes a sharp turn near the hot EGR pipe. In order to never endanger that, the entire section of the harness has been wrapped in heat wrap. It's the little things I always look for! -BATTERY The truck has a new battery. It cranks up right away and has YEARS of carefree service ahead of it. Lets move to the suspension and brakes: -BRAKES Brand new OEM brake pads in the front and rear - loads of pad life! The truck brakes great. No ABS lights or issues! -SHOCKS Brand new KYB shocks. They control the springs very tightly and feel wonderful! -STEERING The steering is tight and has no excessive play. Let's continue to the exterior: -PAINT The paint is good! It is a 7 out of 10 easily. There is minor signs of wear from adventure. There are some minor dings which are very hard to see in pics and in person, some flaws (chips, fade, scratches, dried wax in some corners, etc). There is NO RUST. Take that east coast! Remember this is a 20+ year old truck that has been all over the continent - it is not perfect. But take it in...your new truck will not be dinged from the Starbucks parking lot where some guy bought his truck to pretend this is lifestyle. YOUR ding is from rural Mexico. Your scratch is from that coyote found on the hood. Your scrape is from pine branch in British Columbia. Your truck may go take you to get coffee at Starbucks too, but it has lived a life that most only dream of. -WHEELS The wheels are in nice shape with no major flaws or curbing. -ROOF RACK This truck has the OEM roof rack in great shape. The rails are also wrapped in foam for support of surfboards, skis, snowboards, etc. -GLASS Not to let a pebble defeat this truck, the windshield is great shape! -TRAILER HITCH The truck has a trailer hitch and is wired up and ready to tow. I have never towed with it personally though. -RUNNING BOARDS These are great stainless running boards! What I love about them is that they do not affect ground clearance. They mount in from the side, so they sit flush with the frame rail. They are in great shape too. They are the DEAD give away to the fact this truck hasnt been beat on in crazy off roading. They arent bent, smashed, etc. Onto the cabin: -SEATS The front drivers side seat is in fair shape with some splits and flaws. Still very supportive and comfy though. Just some superficial/cosmetic flaws. The passenger seat is good and has some minor cracking. The rear seats are nice and the jump seats in the rear are near perfect. They fold up and to the side for more trunk room, or with the flick of a lever they pop out for more space! Sometimes the seats gets a little stuck on the tracks when sliding front and back. They lean back just fine and move vertical perfect. I don't move my seat ever so I don't really ever care. -DOOR PANELS All of the panels are free of dents or major defects. -HEADLINER Headliner is in very nice shape! -CARPET The carpet is good. It has no tears or holes. It has some minor stains as well as the floor mats. The driver side floormat has a little wear spot. I used to have a set of rubber floor mats in there, but I took them out so you could exactly the truck. I can include them if you would like them. -POWER LOCKS All doors lock and unlock with central locking function. -POWER WINDOWS Windows all work! -SUNROOF Sunroof works great, tips forward to vent and slides back to fully open! -RADIO/CD OEM radio has been upgraded to an Alpine headunit and Alpine amp. Sounds great! -AC/HEAT/HVAC Panel AC is ice cold and Heat is earth core hot! This is still and R12 car so it gets REALLY cold AC! -MIRRORS Power mirrors work perfectly! -STEERING WHEEL The leather is nice with only minor flaws/fading , no serious wear or split seams! The Experience Driving this FJ is amazing. You sit high in the truck, with excellent vision and it feels great. Its got all the power it had from the factory and from even a little gas is torquey and responsive. I hope you can tell by my long ad that this truck is my pride and joy. It has some minor cosmetic issues, but mechanically it is ready to go anywhere. Not into adventure? That's fine too! This hasn't been modified, lifted, beat on or chopped up to be an off-road monster. It was made to be the most reliable, versatile, useful truck a person could own. You can just as easily put the family in this truck and comfortably set your A/C, and take a nice drive to mall, the amusement park or the park! Your kids have friends? It seats 7!! You need to move some furniture? Fold the two rows of seats down and this truck will swallow a washer and have room for more! And for those of you who are enthusiasts looking specifically for an FJ80, this is a great truck, Im sure from the ad you can tell exactly what a FJ needs done has been done. It's tax season, treat yourself to this truck, that you will not have to dump TONS of money into in this NO RESERVE AUCTION! There is well over $6k in recent scheduled and preventive service alone in this truck so you are ready to go another 200/300/400/500k+++ of care free miles. Don't buy an unserviced truck for a little less than spend 2 times as much to get it to this level of service! Check out the original paperwork too! Feel free to ask me any questions at all. Residents around the country I am happy to be flexible for your arranged shipper so that you can get your new truck as soon as possible. My standard disclaimer/mantra for any car regardless of service or price: The truck is sold with no warranty. You are buying a used car. Eventually every car will break, if you find one that doesn't please let me know. I do my ABSOLUTE BEST to offer only cars that are of TOP NOTCH service. I am not a dealer, just a guy who loves Land Cruisers (among other cars) and hope to pass along my passion and fervor for these trucks. That said if ever you encounter an issue I do my best to provide advice, direction or even parts if I have them. Please understand that it is a used car and will have minor signs of use. That means please do not expect a showroom brand new truck. Please adjust your expectation level to that of a 168,000 mile truck that is not perfect cosmetically but is FANTASTIC running order, . This is very low miles for Land Cruisers of this year, but please just remember that no 168,000 mile truck is perfect cosmetically. Please only bid if you intend to buy. If you would like to have eBay 3rd party mechanic service check out the truck I more than welcome it. Please ask any and all questions ahead of purchase. All sales are final, you are buying as-is, the sky is blue, etc, etc. Sorry to have to give the boring speech. CA residents: good registration! Please feel free to ask any and all questions!! Happy Cruiser-trails!!!! And just a couple old pics of a few places this beast has been!! These 4 pics span something like 5000 miles alone. I used to take the bumper caps off so not to damage them. They are on now as seen in the above pics.
