Vehicle Detail

Up for sale in my 1929 Sunbeam model 2. 350cc, side valve, 3 speed. Please read the description carefully as it will answer many questions about this motorcycle. The John Marston company produced Sunbeam motorcycles from 1912 thru 1939. They were known for their "hand built" quality and were called the Rolls Royce of motorcycles. Production numbers were kept low (1500-2000 per year) so the quality construction could be achieved. They also had a rich racing history. In 1929 the model was redesigned and a saddle style gas tank replaced the old flat tank and an mechanically driven oil pump was installed. This was also the last use of carbide lighting and exposed valve springs. With these new changes the model 2 was only produced for two years (1929 & 1930) making this quite a rare bike. The bike is showing its age but still looks good with the "patina" that is desirable today. The bike was repainted many years ago and shows flaws and scratches. The nickel plating an the carbide headlight also shows some age but is all there. The carbide generator is very nice with no corrosion (almost looks like it was never used). The rubber lines are still in place between the carside generator and the head light and tail light. The bike starts, runs and rides. It does idle a bit fast so you might need to tinker with that. I had it running and took a short ride about 4 or 5 months ago . It shifted through the gears well and the brakes worked when i stopped it. I only rode it enough for checkout purposes and never had it "out on the highway". It does smoke a little and leaks a little, but at 85 years old I would be very surprised if it did not. The carburetor is the correct AMAC (pre amal) and works ok but is showing wear. The drive chain and sprocket show some wear but are still in good condition. The tires look very good but are probably old as they are showing weather checking in the sidewalls. The bike is in very stock condition with a Lucas bulb type style horn to match the Lucas head light and Lucas tail light. The seat is a quality Brooks period replacement and is also showing its age. The saddle bags are not stock but blend well with the bike. I purchased the bike in non running condition and have spen a considerable amount of time (and some money) to get to this condition. The Marston Sunbeams do not come up for sale often especially in the U.S. so this is your chance to own one of these fine machines. I have a clear title, in my name in hand. my reason for selling is that I am now going in a different direction with my hobby and this bike deserves better than just sitting covered up in my shop. Included it the sale are two Sunbeam manuals that help cover these side valve models. Feel free to ask questions before bidding. I will only sell to the U.S. and Canada. Shipping costs and arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer. My prefered method of payment is a bank transfer but I am willing to discuss other methods. If you have less that 5 feedback contact me before bidding or your bid will be canceled.
