This 1970 Honda CL175K4 started out as a pretty clean nice running original bike in ruby red. It was showing its age, but overall a really nice survivor. I wanted to either restore it back to exact original, or make a custom, like a Café Racer. This falls somewhere in between. I'd call it a resto-mod, or mini desert sled. Cafe' racers are really cool, I love them, but they are not for everybody. Clipons, rearsets, lack of fenders, and a thin seat looks cool, but not real practical for a daily driver. The Honda scramblers are actually quite practical. Comfy handlebars and a seat big enough to take your better half along. I wanted a bike that people will notice, and for the few hours I was tooling around, getting gas and getting it muddy and then washing it to take some more pictures, I received a lot of comments. I removed the engine, cleaned and polished the side cases, Added fresh Synthetic oil, and stainless hardware. Rebuilt and polished the carbs. All hardware was polished or replaced. Wheels were dissembled and hubs polished and clear coated. Frame was painted. Forks rebuilt with new seals, boots and oil. Forks polished. Tins are all painted in GM Pewter Metallic Suede laquer. Polished aluminum turn signals with running lights, Polished aluminum Sporto Taillight. Front Fender is custom made to clear the oversize dual sport knobbies, but styled like the original. Tires are actually quite good on the street. Rear fender was slightly shaved to complete the look. Headlight has an Amber polycarbonate Brush Guard over the original glass, which can be easily removed. Everything works. The bike starts, runs, shifts and stops as it should. It will do about 60mph, but is really geared more for town. This bike is near flawless, but does have a few... There is some "patina" (rust) spots in the original chrome on one rim, heat shield, front brake hardware, and fork filler caps. Look at the pictures. I removed the kick start lever. The only mechanical flaw this bike has is the kick start lever engaged the engine low on the stroke. It would start a warm engine, but was difficult to start a cold engine as it did not turn the engine over enough revolutions as it should. I looked into this when I had the side cases off and did not see any bits of metal or evidence of any broken teeth in the crankcase. Since I never use the kick start option, I made an aluminum cap to cover the splines, and removed the lever. The electric starter works perfect. No original tool kit, but I will supply a couple original honda wrenches and a couple allen wrenches. Local pick up only.
