THIS TR6 IS LOOKING FOR A NEW GARAGE. I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF BRITISH CARS SINCE HIGH SCHOOL . MGs WERE READILY AVAILABLE AND WHAT I OWNED (FIRST CAR) , I ALWAYS WANTED A TR6 BUT THEY SEEMED TO BE EXTINCT BACK THEN . FAST FORWARD SOME YEARS , I RAN ACROSS A MAN WHO HAD RESCUED THIS CAR FROM IT'S DECADES LONG REST IN A VIRGINIA BARN . I BOUGHT IT WITH THE PLAN OF BUILDING MY FOREVER CAR . MY PHILOSOPHY WAS TO PUT THE MOST TIME AND EFFORT INTO THE THINGS THAT I DID NOT WANT TO REVISIT . THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLED . THE FRAME , ALREADY IN GOOD SHAPE WAS CLEANED WIRE BRUSHED , AND PAINTED WITH A PRODUCT MEANT TO SEAL GAS TANKS (THUS THE ODD COLOR ) . NEW FLOOR PANS AND SILLS WERE INSTALLED . THE BODY PANELS WERE SANDED OR SANDBLASTED IN CRITICAL AREAS AND ANY PIN HOLES WERE WELDED UP AND GROUND DOWN SMOOTH . IRONICALLY , THE PROBLEM AREAS WERE THOSE THAT HAD UNDERCOATING , THUS MY RESISTANCE TO REAPPLY . I OPTED TO USE A PRODUCT CALLED POR 15 IN CERTAIN AREAS ( UNDERSIDE OF FLOOR PANS ETC. ) BOTTOM LINE , THIS IS TRULY A RUST FREE CAR . THE BODY PANELS WERE PAINTED OFF THE CAR , REASSEMBLED AND PAINTED , WET SANDED AND PAINTED WITH ONE ADDITIONAL COAT . ( YOU CAN SEE THE CLEAN UNDISTORTED REFLECTION IN THE STOP LIGHT PICTURE ) . THE THREADS ON EVERY NUT AND BOLT WERE CHASED ON THIS CAR MAKING IT A PLEASURE TO WORK ON . THE FUEL TANK WAS PROFESSIONALLY RELINED AND A DRAIN COCK WAS ADDED , ALL METAL FUEL AND BRAKE LINES WERE DISASSEMBLED AND CLEANED . EVERY ELECTRICAL CONNECTION HAS BEEN CHECKED RESULTING IN AN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THAT EVERYTHING WORKS ( DOOR BUZZER AND SEAT BELT WARNING PURPOSELY NOT CONNECTED ) . THE ENGINE WAS DISASSEMBLED , THE MACHINE SHOP REWORKED THE HEAD WITH HARDENED EXHAUST VALVE SEATS , AND MACHINED THE CRANKSHAFT DOWN .010 " . NEW RINGS , REGROUND STOCK CAMSHAFT , THRUST WASHERS , MAIN BEARINGS , AND OIL PUMP KIT WERE INSTALLED . A SPIN ON OIL FILTER ADAPTER AND OIL COOLER WERE ADDED. MY PLAN WAS TO DO THESE BASICS AND TO REVISIT THE ENGINE WITH BIGGER PISTONS , MORE CAM ETC . AT A LATER TIME AS NOT TO OVER POWER THE TRANSMISSION , CLUTCH , DIFFERENTIAL , AND REAR AXLES . THEY BEING THE ONLY THINGS UNTOUCHED ON THE CAR ( THEY WERE ONLY CLEANED PAINTED AND FLUIDS CHANGED ) . I DID OPT FOR NON STOCK SU CARBS . THEY ARE SIMPLER AND MAKE MORE POWER THAN STOCK. CONS: THE DOOR JAMB HAS TOUCH UP PAINT AS A RESULT OF CHIPS FROM SEAT BELT BUCKLE STRIKES . THE CONVERTIBLE TOP HAS A QUARTER SIZE REPAIR ( PICTURED) AND NEEDS A TOP SEAL . THE ORIGINAL MASTER CYLINDER CAP AND OIL CAP LEAK . NON ORIGINAL INTERIOR DOOR PANELS, AND FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS ( FROM A 75 TR6 ) . DUE TO MY SIZE , I INSTALLED MORE SUPPORTIVE NON STOCK LEATHER SEATS IN ADDITION TO LEAVING OUT THE DASH SUPPORT ( WHERE THE RADIO GOES ) . SPACE ALSO REQUIRED NON STOCK INTERIOR DOOR LATCH HANDLES ( PICTURED ) . LITTLE EXTRAS: ORIGINAL PLASTIC BATTERY BOX , RECENT NEW DIFFERENTIAL MOUNTS , NEW FUSE PANEL. BOTTOM LINE : AN EASY STARTING NICE RIDING CAR THAT IS NOT PERFECT ( BUT CAN EASILY BE MADE TO BE ) THAT DESERVES A NEW OWNER WHO WILL DRIVE IT MORE THAN THE 500 MILES THAT I DID .
