1965 VW Deluxe Bug NO RESERVE Thanks for checking out "Sergio", named him after a very good friend of mine that recently moved down to LA, bugs are are kind of quirky, and so is my friend, so they were a match made in heaven. Anyways, this is a fairly original 1965 VW Bug, that has never been apart from what I can tell. Originally bought down in Califoria, and has 3 previous owners before I got it. It was in Southern California most of its life, and then was moved up to Bend, Oregon in the last 10 years, and ended up settling here in Salem, Oregon last spring. The nice thing about this area, we have mild winters, we don't salt the roads, and cool summers. This bug is very solid, very little rust on it. The 2 areas, is the pretty normal battery box area on the passenger rear floor pan which I will include, got a new one for it, which you might have replaced at some point, most people will probably never fix it, just drive and enjoy. The other are is there are a couple small bubbles on the drivers quarter panel next to running board, very minor. This car is so solid, check put the floors, in my underneath photos, no under coating, very clean. The inner fenders, and wheel tub areas very clean, no rust, under the hood, very clean original paint. I believe they called this Fontana Grey, it was really sunny out today, but it is a mix between White and Grey, with Red interior. Overall this is not a perfect bug, I would call it a very nice driver, with some paint patina on it. There are various chips and scratches, a few light dings on the hood, that left some paint cracking. The car looks like it has been repainted 2 times, the original Fontana Grey, then light blue, and back to Fontana. It was repainted about 15 years ago, not a perfect paint job, it has aged some. The car has a little filer, but no signs of an abuse. The paint, besides a couple larger chips, I would call a 10-15 footer. It doesn't look bad, but it has aged as well, down the road you might want to give Sergio a new coat of paint. To me, it is perfect the way it is, I love cars that I can actually drive and enjoy, and not worry about leaving in the parking lot. The best thing about Sergio, is that he starts right up, every time, and is very functional and easy to drive. When it comes to a Bug, this is a clean little guy. All the exterior lights are working, comes with Roof rack. as well. The odometer works, it reads 40,411 assume it has rolled over at least once. The engine, I believe may be original from the number on the block it is a 1200, from what I read, this car was built in August 1964, as a 1965 model. The engine number I believe is from late 1963 to July 1964, which if it is a July 1964, engine, they could have possibly used it for a completed August built car. I am not a VW historian or guru, I am sure someone will help me out here. I did have a gentleman tell me, from the sounds of it, I might have upgraded 1600 heads on it, because the way the intakes tubes run. Anyways, lets just say it might or might not be the original, its been a lot of years, if it was a Ford I could tell you. Anyways, the engine runs very good, it runs very smooth, has been upgraded with a Alternator, with a EMPI carb, just put a new German built muffler on it for 1963-1965 1200 engines, to keep it original, I just love the sound of the original bug mufflers, that little chirping. Anyways, it does not blow smoke, or burn oil, very solid running car. It does have a a few small typical oil leaks, nothing major for an old bug. The transmission is in good shape, it shifts very nice, no clunks or chatters, on of the best shifting bugs I have had. The brakes seem to work pretty good, they do not pull, it stops nice and straight. The emergency brake handle is not working, it needs to be fixed, the spring is pushing out the button, not sure what is wrong with it, probably something simple, just have not looked into yet, just noticed it. All exterior lights work, and interior lights work as well. Gauges, all work inside, with lights working in dash and dome light. The tires are in good shape, no cracks, with about 95% tread on them. The wheels are in nice shape as well. Overall mechanically it is in pretty good shape for a driver. This is a bug, do I dare say that you could fly in and drive it home. I think you probably could, it is very dependable, but just remember it is an old rig almost 50 years old, but good thing is there is a back yard bug mechanic in every city, so there is always a helping hand. The interior actually for a driver is pretty nice. Headliner has a few small wrinkles in it, nothing bad, notice it more in pictures. The seats are excellent, the carpet is nice but has a little wear on it. The door panels and rear panels are in nice shape, no rips or tears. Original steering wheel, has a few cracks, horn button is not working, but everything else is working. Hidden after market CD/AM/FM in the clove box. The ashtray needs to be repainted. The interior paint is original to the car not repainted. The fuse box looks clean as well. The lights inside all work, the fog lamps work, and the running lights in the headlights work. The fog lights turn on by a switch in the glove box. The wood, on the roof rack, has been sealed. On Feb-06-14 at 17:46:37 PST, seller added the following information: Hello, one thing I forgot to mention concerning the emergency brake, I have another used handle with button that comes with the car as well. I showed also a close up of the front windshield, and not sure if you can see them, but there are 4 small chips in it, on the passenger side, they really do not affect the driving of any sort.
