Vehicle Detail

Selling my 1974 3.0 CS coupe which I bought 12 years ago with the intention of restoring. I was driving a 1968 2800CS at the time which was rusting away around me and just had to have this car when I saw it and saw that it was a 2 owner car with full service records dating back to day one. The car was in Virginia, where it was bought new but spent the majority of it's life in Miami Florida. I bought it because it had solid virgin strut towers and was remarkably solid compared to most at the time. I dismantled my 2800 cs and kept a lot of the extra pieces which will come with this car. Since the cars has been moved about and kept inside and outside along the way. If the car doesn't sell it will be most likely tucked away for another 12 years inside in Upstate NY and await my retirement. If you have been following these cars then you probably know they have escalated substantially in value as of late largely due to the simple economics of supply and demand. There just wasn't many built as they were very expensive when new and most have rusted away like my 68 2800CS did. Unfortunately BMW won't be building any more of these so if you want one of the most beautiful pillarless coupes ever made your window of opportunity may be closing as time passes. Restored examples are now easily bringing over 50,000 for the ho hums and closer to six figures for the well done cars. In my opinion the values will only continue to go up. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to get a non sunroof lighter weight CS at a bargain basement price. OK about the car it is a 1974 4 speed car with NO SUNROOF. Most of these United States imported cars came with a roof I wanted the car simply for the reason that it would be much lighter without the roof much like my 73 911 I prefer not to have a sunroof in a performance automobile. My 2800 was a euro car with no roof and I loved its performance this car is a US car that came with the leather interior and a/c but remarkably no roof. As the 3.0 CS was BMW's premier and most expensive offering in 1974 it stands to reason that most well healed buyers at the time would want and/or demand a sunroof. The car does have some rust in the floor and rocker area, very common with these cars. Uncommon is all 4 struts are original and solid, the trunk area and spare tire well is solid. The engine will run turns over. The radiator and other bits have been removed but all parts are there. I bought this from a guy that was restoring the car or beginning to do the body work the car had been parked inside and he lost interest, time and money in no particular order. Original color of the car was silver I believe polar silver. Interior is leather and is rough seat covers are dryed and cracked carpet is missing in most places. The headliner is in remarkable shape, door panels, dash and wood not so great. Engine turns over but has been sitting for years. The carbs will need cleaning rebuilding and all fuel lines serviced. These engines are robust and can last almost forever with proper maintenance. The big 3.0 liter six is powerful and has that wonderful BMW inline six sound. Amazingly I have almost every record for this car dating back to day one! It is quite a pile and tells quite a story. The car has been in two states Florida and Virginia. The miles on this car are correct. The car has a great History and overall story as I have the copies of the original Owner buying the car in Virginia in 1975 for $9,000.00 quite a substantial amount of money back in the mid seventies. The Woman owner drove this car from her home in Chevy Chase around Maryland and Virginia until 1979 whereupon she moved to Miami Florida. There she split duties between this car and a Mercedes 280 SL until 1993/94. This Woman of great taste was born in 1920 so drove the CS for almost two decades as the records prove and well into her 70's. Along the way she kept every receipt and work order and I have them totaling well over $25,000 if the car needed a repair she had it performed as it is obvious she was quite fond of this car. I have never seen a car with such complete documentation and records there are a box full of them and they convincing prove the history and pampered life this car had. You can trace the history of this car accurately from 1975 until 1993 miles were in the low 90,000 at last record, current mileage showing is 102 and change. I acquired the car over 12 years ago from the second owner so it seems that the second owner maybe a family member got the car from Florida and back to Virginia whereupon it was parked acquiring maybe another 12,000 miles? I have put zero miles on this car . Anyway, it is with a bit of trepidation that this car is offered but I don't want it outside over the Winter. Good luck in the bidding!
