Vehicle Detail
Our family is moving from Florida to Colorado in the near future. I have owned this Z28 for three years and have had a blast driving and owning a good example of classic American muscle. Unfortunately, it does not make sense for us to move my Camaro to Colorado, as it would be very difficult to make it emissions compliant, and it would be terrible in the snow. I am the third owner of this car. The original owner bought it from Palm Chevrolet and Oldsmobile in Punta Gorda, FL. I bought it from the second owner's widow three years ago; it had been sitting in their garage for a few years, but I was able to get it running with a new fuel pump / fuel sender and fuel line. My plans were to one day swap in an LSx motor and 5 or 6 speed manual transmission. If you're looking to do something like that, this car would be an excellent starting point. The good: This car turns heads everywhere I go. The paint is bright yellow and in good condition, and the car is rolling on its original gold painted cast aluminum N90 wheels. I can't count the number of times people on the road have asked me about it, or told me about how they used to have a Z28 when they were younger. The motor sounds amazing, especially at wide open throttle when the cowl induction system activates (yes, the cowl induction system is functional). The motor is not original, but is similar to the original motor. It's a 350 CI / 5.7L V8 originally from a late-70's C10 or C20 pickup. The block codes are: V0418TYZ T78520226 The motor sounds like is running an aftermarket cam, but I don't know what kind. It also includes Edelbrock chrome valve covers, and a rebuilt Quadrajet 4 barrel carburetor (installed in March, 2013). Last year I replaced the water pump and radiator, as well as both upper and lower radiator hoses. The power steering / alternator / fan / water pump belts are also new. The rear brake drums and shoes were replaced about two years ago. Power steering assist is very good. The Firehawk Indy 500 tires have very good remaining tread life. Includes original factory build sheet, showing original delivery to Palm Chevrolet and Oldsmobile in Punta Gorda, FL. This is a Florida car, and has never seen snow or road salt. The frame is clean and rust-free. The bad: It's a 32 year old car, so it naturally has a few issues. Most of these will not be difficult to deal with, especially if you are mechanically inclined. The car sometimes stalls when stopping unless you pop the transmission into neutral. The fix may be as simple as having a transmission flush done, but it's possible there are other transmission issues. The cooling system may need further work. I have to top off the coolant every now and then. The last time I did so, I noticed a bit of sludge in the coolant. The motor could use a tune-up and new plugs, and new exhaust gaskets. There are a few spots where the paint is been chipped / dinged, and some spots where the paint has minor scratches (especially the rear deck lid). The paint is not the original paint. The passenger side corner of the front bumper was apparently hit at some point. It is not deformed, but it will need to be repainted due to chipped / peeling paint. The driver's side interior door panel is worn; the plastic backing has cracked, and the panel is warped in a few spots. The heater / AC system isn't working. The heater core has been bypassed by a previous owner, plus there are probably electrical issues; the dashboard wiring harness has been spliced quite a bit over the years. Overall, I wish I could keep my Camaro and take it to Colorado. My long term plans were to do an LSx conversion with a 5 or 6 speed, and take care of some of the interior issues. For a 32 year old car though, it's been quite dependable, and it's definitely been fun to work on. If you do anything cool with it such as a motor swap or restoration, I'd love to hear about it!
