Vehicle Detail
No reserve. Original owner. Daily driver. This car runs as good now as it did when new. Issues are few but there are some. They are: Mirrors must be adjusted by hand and passenger window is inoperable. Also, for some reason the "Check Engine Light" is illuminated and has been that way for the past 5000 miles, yet the vehicle runs perfectly. (A mechanic at the local Smart dealership believes it is just an O2 sensor however this particular local dealership will not perform maintenance or repairs on non-U.S. Smart Cars, and I have not pursued the matter beyond that.) Other than that it is a great car, and it has been well taken care of. Nothing else is wrong with this car. It has had nothing but Mobil 1 0-W-40 synthetic oil in it, and it has been changed regularly. The AC blows cold. I average about 41 miles per gallon. The car is governed to not exceed 84 miles per hour. It will easily travel comfortably in the 70-75 miles per hour range all day long, and is surprisingly stable for a small vehicle. Note that this particular Smart 450 is a "Pulse." For those not familiar with that, it means that it is the sport edition with wider tires and paddle shifters on the steering column, should you choose to drive it in the manual mode. The rear tires are new. The battery is new and has a warranty on it. The oil, oil filter, and air filter were all recently changed. My personal situation has changed so that I need a bigger vehicle. I would like to hold onto this car but I need to "thin out the herd" so after much thought I've decided it is probably time to part with the Smart Car. The buyer of this vehicle will get a good car that has been well taken care of. Note that this is the European edition. Before the official U.S. version came out in 2008 there were 1026 conversions of the 2005 and 2006 Smart Cars which were allowed into the U.S. with some D.O.T. required modifications, such as a mod to the muffler, extra padding inside the vehicle, different lights, etc. This is one of them. These conversions were performed by G&K Conversions in California, and they had the exclusive license to do this. This European version (original design) is seven inches shorter and one inch narrower than the U.S. version. Also, the U.S. version has a Mitsubishi engine, non-turbo, 1000cc, 5 speed clutchless transmission, whereas this one has a Mercedes engine, turbo, 700cc, 6 speed clutchless transmission. If you want to know more about it I would recommend you do a search on the Smart 450. The U.S. version is a Smart 451. There is plenty of info on the Internet. Personally I feel that this original design looks a whole lot better than the U.S. Smart car. Also, all parts required for maintenance and repair are readily available either from auto parts stores or through the Internet. If you don't do your own maintenance then you might need to look around a little to find a mechanic who will work on it. All in all, I love this car, and it generates enormous amounts of stares, comments, questions, etc. I hate to part with it, but I assure you that the new owner will not regret this purchase if he or she wants something that is truly unique yet economical and practical. Happy bidding.
