Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a very nice 1962 Triumph TR3B. The original owner had completed almost all of the restoration in 2005. I purchased the car from the owner's family in 2009 and completed the rest of the work. The frame and suspension were rebuilt along with new paint, all new brake components, rebuilt TR4A engine and overdrive transmission, new clutch, throwout bearing and pressure plate, electronic ignition and Monza exhaust. The center instrument panel underwent a concourse restoration and the tachometer and speedometer were also overhauled. A new wiring harness was installed along with all new exterior lighting components. The interior has red leather seats, black carpet and red interior trim. All bumpers and brightwork are new. Car has four new chrome tubeless wire wheels with new tires. The wheels have not been balanced yet. Spare is a restored painted wire wheel with new tire. A new top, powder coated hood stick with cover and tonneau are included. The hood stick has new webbing which is included but not installed. No side windows are included, only primered window door mounts. Since the car was never driven in inclement weather, side curtains were not needed. Also, I think the doors look better without the brackets installed. The car has NO RUST, NONE! Car also comes with new Brooklands racing screens that really add to the enjoyment of open cockpit driving. The engine starts easily and runs very strong with a wonderful sound coming from the Monza exhaust. The engine has a high-torque starter, good oil pressure and doesn't smoke. However, as with most British cars, it does mark its territory with a few drops of oil. The engine has two new HS6 SU carbs. Included are two spare jets. An electric fan was added which is a must for these cars. There are no overheating issues with the engine when the electric fan is operating. The fully synchronized gearbox is tight and shifts smoothly. However, when you switch on the overdrive it engages smoothly but drops out after about 5 seconds. I don’t know if this is an adjustment or mechanical issue. The normal operation of the gearbox is just fine in all four gears. There are no unusual sounds from the engine, gearbox or differential. The car retains its original worm and peg steering with horn and turn signals integrated in the steering wheel where they belong. I never switched to rack and pinion steering due to the loss of the horn and turn signal location in the steering wheel. As with all TR3 worm and peg steering, there is some play. The car has always been covered in the garage and never left outside or driven in the rain or snow. It comes with a $350 black Covercraft cover. It’s made for a Porsche but fits this car nicely and is a great, soft cover. I have over $22K in receipts not including the wire wheels, tires, instrument cluster restoration and hundreds of hours of labor. Many of the parts are from the Roadster Factory. I hate to part with this car but we are buying a house and need the extra money. The car is currently located in Show Low, AZ and is available for viewing by appointment. Have clear AZ title in hand.NOTE: Although the paint looks good in the pictures, I would rate it about 7.5. Flaws have occurred over the years but are not noticeable until you get within about five feet or less of the car. There is a spider cracking under the left side of the rear Triumph emblem (see picture). Miscellaneous parts and manuals including a nice red leather hat come with the car. Please see pictures. If you are going to have the car shipped, I highly recommend doing so in an enclosed carrier. The car will leave my home with the windshield and tonneau cover installed. All other items that come with the car will be packed in the trunk or inside the car. The windshield air deflectors and Brookland screens will be packed and not installed. Please contact me with any questions or if you want hi-res auction pictures emailed to you. I will not reveal the reserve so please don’t ask. This vehicle is being sold AS-IS with NO warranty and mileage is not actual. On Oct-13-13 at 11:46:12 PDT, seller added the following information: PLEASE NOTE: This was a body-off restoration, not a painted over mess as you will often find on eBay. The 22K in receipts are for actual parts, not high priced labor charges. If you want to count the labor, then add about $30K more to the parts receipts. The transmission shifts and works just fine except for the overdrive anomaly. Thanks! On Oct-13-13 at 15:43:50 PDT, seller added the following information: THE RESERVE ON THIS CAR IS SET AT $22,500. All I want to do is try and recoup the cost of the parts that went into this car. Not the cost of the car or the thousands in labor costs. Just the parts. Thanks! On Oct-13-13 at 17:27:48 PDT, seller added the following information: I just added up all the parts receipts on the car and the total comes to approx $26K. It includes all parts including paint job. The restoration started around 1998, so most of the pricing is from that era. The buyer will receive these receipts. Again, this does not include all of the labor that went into this car. Thanks!
