Vehicle Detail
If you have any trouble viewing the slideshow with 58 photos of this vehicle, please go to: picasaweb.google.com/oldcargeek You are looking at a 1966 Land Rover long wheelbase 4x4 with the factory diesel engine and aftermarket overdrive. It's a 4 speed manual with high and low range transfer case and the overdrive effectively giving you the possibility of 16 different forward gear ratios. It has a solid frame, but there is rust in the bulkhead, rockers and floor pan. It's got new paint (automotive grade single stage urethane) in factory Land Rover colors: Lincoln Green and Beige. It still needs some work to be put back on the road, but if you watch the videos at the end of my web-album, you can hear it run, and see it drive. I can start it, but the clutch master cylinder needs to be rebuilt, and brakes aren't very good. Goes through all the gears beautifully, and the engine just purrs. Parking lights, headlights and taillights work, but I noticed the generator wasn't charging (may just need to be polarized/energized as it's been sitting for a number of years). Will need two 12 volt batteries. It has a block heater for cold weather starting. One rear door window is broken out, but it's just flat glass and easy/cheap to replace. The passenger side front doorglass frame is painted to match, but needs to be bolted back onto the door with a custom bracket of flat steel (I'll make one before the auction's end if I have the time). These are such neat vehicles with removeable top and doors. Aluminum body is lighweight, and won't rust. The diesel with overdrive combination gets VERY good fuel mileage for a big, boxy SUV! This is a particularly rare and desireable vehicle. I've not seen another with diesel AND overdrive for a long time. Furthermore, it's an original left hand drive American market vehicle, so it wasn't imported later like so many of them. No title issues. I've got a good, clean Iowa title in my name. Thanks for looking! Any other questions, I may be reached at (641) 512-5229 afternoons and evenings.
