1978 LOTUS ELITE 503 VIN: 78/060508B THERE ARE OVER 50 IMAGES OF THIS CAR SHOWN BELOW! DESCRIPTION: This NO RESERVE auction is for a scarce LOTUS 503. There is NO TITLE for this vehicle and it is being sold with a BILL OF SALE ONLY! The Elites were produced from 1974 to 1982. This was Lotus' first saloon car and was front engined with rear wheel drive. The hatchback body is made of fiberglass and it is mounted on a steel backbone chassis. It has four wheel independent suspension using coil springs. The power plant is the 907 aluminum block 4-valve, DOHC, four cylinder, 1973cc developing 155bhp. It is fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The claimed drag co-efficient was 0.30 and at the time of it's launch it was the most expensive 4-cylinder automobile in the world!The Elites were available in 4 main specification variations, 501, 502, 503 and later on the 504. 501's were the base models, 502's added air conditioning, 503's added power steering to the 502 specs and the 504's were loaded and also had an automatic transmission. The example that we are selling is a partially restored (brakes and suspension) and partially disassembled auto. The original engine and transmission are out of the car and the engine is also in pieces (as shown). It IS rebuildable and not suffering from any major melt downs or explosions. We also have an all aluminum Buick V-8 engine (not shown) that has all of the machine work completed to rebuild that, if the new owner would like to install that engine instead. The V-8 heads are all done and most of the parts are there with the exception of the pistons. \As with all of our eBay Motors listings we try to let our high resolution photographs tell the story about the vehicles that we are selling.
