Vehicle Detail

Of the 2,750 TR8 ever produced, only 332 Fuel Injection cars were made in 1981. A few more were produced in 1980 to be sold only in California, and for model year 82 till October 1981, when the Legendary Triumph brand ceased producing sports cars all together- Making this model the final Triumph ever to be developed. A Bosch L-jetronic fuel injection system was combined with a specially designed Lucas fuel injection computer (ECU). The fuel injected model was rated up to 148 bhp delivering 0-60 mph in the low 8 seconds. All the fuel injection cars benefit from the 1979 Drop Head (convertible) redesign done by Giovanni Michelotti. Perhaps his last design ever. Triumph didn't use their own V8 for the TR8 (found in the Stag), instead they installed the all aluminium 215 cu (3.5L) V8 unit that Rover acquired from General Motors in the mid-60s. History has shown this engine to be an extremely reliable, flexible, and robust power- plant. The example sold here is an extremely low mileage car, that I imported to the US from Canada. The dealer who sold the car to me said it belonged to a chairman of the Canadian Triumph Club. Other than that I know little about it's past. The car's serial number (VIN) proves it to be a genuine TR8 3.5 V8 Injection, built in the Solihull plant by Canadian specifications. The serial's 7th digit represent the engine type. It was displayed in my car collection and I drove it just a little around town. It was always dependable and a huge amount of fun. While riding beautifully, it also provides with a serious amount of available power and tail happy behavior as can be expected from such a small car with an American based V8 engine. However, it is easily maneuverable due to it's excellent steering and suspension. The car was repainted by a previous owner to it's original sensational and very periodic bronze brown. The paint still shines nicely but it's not perfect. The car and its floor pan are very clean and show very little surface rust. The original interior is in nice shape and intact. It has the original alloy wheels and leather steering wheel. There's a new soft top with a clear rear window and it comes with the top's cover. I am not a mechanic so I can only write that my impression is that the car runs great and the engine pulls strong, runs smooth, keeping good pressure and temperature. It is being sold AS IS, but you are welcome to come over to Cleveland, OH to check it out with a specialist or in person. Due to it's rarity and Triumph / Michelloti heritage, I believe this car is a sound investment and can easily fit into any level of car collection anywhere. Perhaps even more important- it is just incredibly fun to drive. On Sep-08-13 at 16:10:01 PDT, seller added the following information: I would like to add that the A/C doesn't work. Also that it had been brought to my attention by a meticulous inspector that that there is some typical surface rust on the firewall in the brake fluid reservoir area. There is also a previous owner rust repair on the trunk/ rear left wheel area that was done so good that I never noticed. The car's paint job was done by a previous owner at least 6 years ago- so if it had serious rust issues it would have surfaced by now. As far as I can see this TR8 Injection is very solid car.
