Vehicle Detail
Up for auction here from the California high desert is a very rare and original 1977 Z28 camaro. This is one of my personal collector cars that I sought out and retrieved from eastern Oregon high desert area of Klamath Falls. What makes this car special is that it's an original 4-speed non-A/C car with its original paint and interior intact, which is exactly what I was looking for. I bought this car around 2009 and trailered it back to my home in the CA desert. The car's engine had a rod knock when I bought it, so I went through the engine and completely rebuilt it, except I replaced the stock '77 heads with 1970 LT-1 "camel hump" heads with 2.02 valves, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, a Comp Cams' XE268H-10 cam (.477/.480 lift~224/230 duration @ .050 on a 110 deg. lobe separation) and new Hooker Super-comp headers, and complete new dual exhaust system. The engine also has .030 Speed-Pro hypereutectic pistons, new oil pump, new oil pan, new water pump, new high output fuel pump, double roller timing chain, new valve springs and a new harmonic balancer. The car also has a brand-new completely rebuilt 3-row radiator, using the factory stock radiator tanks, and of course, all new hoses. A new Centerforce Dual Friction clutch kit was installed. There is no radio. All gauges work. The headliner is hanging and the seats need re-upholstering. The carpet is brand-new. The options are tilt steering (tight and perfect), rear defroster. The dash is curling up on the passenger side, which is a common problem with the 2nd gens. The interior is definitely is in great shape. These 2nd gens have quite a bit of plastic and I have taken care and kept the car out of the sun at all times since I bought it. None of the interior plastic has the usual "powdery disintegration" that is so sadly common to these. And best of all, this interior appears to have never been disassembled. The engine is NOT running the Holley carb that is shown in the pic there. It is running the stock Quadrajet and the Edelbrock Performer RPM intake is a Spreadbore design with NO EGR provision. This car is currently set up as an off-road non-smog compliant vehicle right now, but the original stock heads, exhaust manifolds and intake manifold with stock air cleaner ARE included. The engine/clutch has less than 1000 miles since rebuild. To hear it idling, go to You Tube and search with "1977 z28 350 1970 2.02 LT-1" and you'll see it come up.
