Vehicle Detail
RARE 1950 DESOTO WOODY WAGON—600 in the original factory run, very few known to exist today (less than 15). This vehicle was purchased in 1950-51 by Paul Mountcastle as a bank re-possession and has been in the family for the remainder of its life. He purchased it to carry his Kerry Blue Terrier show dogs to shows up and down the west coast and into Canada. It was barn stored from about 1969-2010 and has been under a car cover since (tends to blow off in the wind and rain). Complete picture is shortly after it was taken out of the barn. Remaining pictures are current. I had the front clip removed so we could take out the engine (it wouldn’t turn over). The varnish has come off and exposed the wood. While it was in the barn the exterior wood received some damage from bugs (small holes are evident, particularly on driver side). Some of the glue has let go and some of the wood is becoming soft. All of the wood is there with the exception of a couple of pieces (bottom cross piece on the front passenger door is the worst) so it is available to make patterns. The sheet metal is all in good shape, some surface rust. I think the front passenger fender was repaired/replaced at one time. The interior is in pretty good shape. The back seat is excellent and the front seat has a couple of wear places—it is original upholstery. The head liner needs some attention, although it is mostly intact and is still in place. The interior wood is mostly in excellent condition. The chrome has deteriorated over time, but is almost all present, with the exception of one front piece on the passenger side. The rear bumper has a fracture on the driver side (see pictures). I purchased a spare engine for this car which is included in the purchase. I have the title in hand and will sell by title and bill of sale. Ask any questions you have. I have tried to give enough pictures to give purchasers an accurate idea of this car. I have set the reserve at a reasonable level for the rarity and quality of this car. It is for sale locally also, so I reserve the right to end this sale early. Purchaser must provide immediate $500 deposit upon completion of the auction, balance within 7 days. Purchaser is responsible for all transportation and transportation arrangements. I will help load if needed.
