1931 FORD - MODEL A EXCEPTIONAL – EXTRAORDINARY SHOWROOM QUALITY This is one extraordinary motor car, authentic with a few modern conveniences added for your comfort and safety. Indifferent and inaccurate restorations are common to these cars. Over-restored tends to be the norm. This 1931 Murray, curved 3 window, slant windshield motor car is one of the best in the land. It has been in the same family for 50 years. It runs and drives very much the same way it did 82 years ago when it was brand new. I will show every part to you from top to bottom, inside and out to the best of my ability with 90 photos and descriptive words. This is a 'get in and go' auto that has had extreme care for its entire life. It can be showroom displayed (see photo gallery) or driven daily if you so desire Before we begin, let me share just a few witticism's from Ford's past. HISTORY OF HENRY FORD Henry Ford was born on a farm in rural Michigan on July 30, 1863. Later on, his father said Henry grew up "with wheels in his head." At age 16, he left home and went to Detroit to seek his fame and fortune. He worked in a variety of machine shops that brought him close to engines. He found time to meet and marry a lovely farmer's daughter named Clara Jane and in 1893, the Ford's only child, Edsel, was born. On Christmas eve of the same year, Henry with the help of Clara Jane, dribbling gasoline into an engine over the kitchen sink he successfully tested his very first engine. Henry completed his first car that summer in a shed behind the Ford home. It was a fine car and it performed well. It was good for about 20 MPH. Excursions to the country with Clara beside him and Edsel on her lap…………………….Henry Ford was well on his way to becoming a legend. When Henry Ford stopped making the Model T, it created an extreme state of disturbance, brisk activity and somewhat of an emergency. Many stories are told and most of them are true. Ford was a fast moving man of quick decisions. In fact, he moved so fast in his plant that most of his workers had to run just to keep up with him. Major companies, investors, and Model T owners began stock piling these fabulous automobiles. My father knew a man who bought 3 "just to be sure I do not run out of them.” The Model A stories are not quite as dramatic. However, when the last Model A rolled off the line it was just as painful. Ford made certain the last year Model A would be forever remembered, never forgotten. 1931 was the last year for the Model A, it had revised styling, several new body types and extra careful assembly. On April 14th the 20-millionth Ford, a 4 door sedan, just like the one offered here was produced. INTERIOR The model offered here was introduced in March 1931. It is a curved 3 window, slant windshield Murray sedan (160-A). All of the windows open and close just as well as when the car was new. The third windows also open and give extra comfort for rear passengers. Step down as you enter the rear quarters. You will find a full foot rest and tons of room back here. Taking friends for a cruise is a big part of the fun. If you are so inclined, pull the rear window shade for a bit of privacy. The front windshield is easy to open and adds great ventilation. You will be surprised just how comfortable it is. The seats are very supportive and are in wonderful condition. There is no wear, soil or tears any where. This goes for the door panels, also. The rear carpet is spotlessly clean. The front cabin is all there, complete in every way. There are all kinds of things to capture ones attention. The dash is original and all gauges function properly, no guessing here. Even the gas gauge works. Here are two wonderful accessories, dash lights and turn signals and hazard lights. Every part of the dash is nicely finished. There is a well positioned dash mounted push button starter. All of the controls are functional and correctly positioned. This includes the throttle lever, carburetor adjusting rod and choke, spark lever and foot pedal. The head liner is flawless and it houses a working dome light. EXTERIOR The exterior is set to a premium standard. There are no scratches, even to a trained eye. The paint is pure black and it has a very deep spectacular shine. Every seam, body line, dip and curve is in amazing condition. This is an all metal motor car, there is no rust and there never has been. It is difficult to imagine, but in real life the car is even nicer than the photos. The doors did not open or close any better when the car was new, plus they line up perfectly with the body. There are no sags or areas of concern anywhere. The running boards are secure and fit the fenders perfectly. This is the car of lights and mirrors, yet it is most tasteful. There are 8 front mounted lights and 7 rear ones. People stand in amazement when it is displayed. A finer detailed Model A is yet to be found.( visit photo gallery for showroom display). The windshield is perfectly clear. Far too often when it comes time to stop, most vintage cars have very poor tail and stop lights. There is no question of intent here when stopping this one as 5 stop lights take command. Almost hidden when the brake pedal is pushed 3 stop lights brightly shine from under the rear trunk. Plus there is not just one but 2 stop lights. You will also find turn signal lights and hazard lights. The headlights have both driving beams and bright beams. They are handsomely mounted just like in a modern day car. The Moto Meter functions just as it should. The welded wire wheels are flawless and they are original. The white wall tires are brand new and add a beautiful dimension to the car, especially on the drivers side. The side mount white wall is picture perfect. A picnic basket and a hand made car cover are included. Wait until you see it, something to talk about! Kindly go to the accessory list for more exterior options and features. ENGINE The engine is original to the car. It is number *A3599578* There is a surprise as you open the top. The engine looks very much like it did when the car was new. It has never been painted. The stampings are original. In order to show its beauty, the engine was simply detailed, that's all. 83 years old and kicking strong. This car starts on a dime when it is warmed and it really does purr like a kitten. There are no vibrations. It goes through the gears as it should and it does not smoke. It is a lot of fun to drive. Always a big hit on the road or sitting pretty. ACCESSORIES 1. 4 side mounted mirrors 2. 5 new whitewall tires 3. Hand crafted trunk using 3 different woods 4.
