Vehicle Detail
UPDATE- I am installing 2 new rear tires to match the new fronts and will install all 4 new shocks with "Buy it Now". This is a good running and driving manual transmission Westy. You can drive it and camp in it while you restore it or just use it as is. It has 283K miles with approx 60K on the engine swap and new clutch. The original owner put the first 240K miles on it and had everything repaired and serviced as needed. It has a recent tune up and oil change and shift linkage completely rebuilt (it's perfect!). The timing belt and waterpump was done at 260k. The starter was just replaced a month ago as well as front tires. I also just purchased new hatch lift shocks for it. It has the 2L 8V Audi/VW inline 4 cylinder (same as Golf or Jetta). The van was originally from California and was picked up in Germany and shipped over as a factory delivery. The great thing is that with this swap already in place, you could also drop a 1.8t or tdi directly in with no issues. The engine swap has the California emissions certification plaque in place and was all done to spec. It's an awesome platform for the future, or as I said, just jump in it and drive as is. Perfect CarFax, good history. It has been used as a daily driver in GA and FL for the last 7 years so it has never lived in a cold/snow climate. Also, the original rubber waffle mat is in perfect condition under the fake wood laminate floor. The good- everything I said above. A fully equipped pop top Westy ready to go. The engine swap alone is $4K and improves relaiability and mileage. The roof seals are good and the pop top vent window is perfect. No leaks! It also has a very nice awning and roof rack. It appears to have all of the original curtains AND screens as well as both tables. There are no trouble lights on in the dash and it has good power. The underside of the chassis is clean and straight. It has all of the camping accessories INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL DINNERWARE SET made by Buchsteiner in "West Germany"! The bad- it's a typical Vanagon. Seem rust here and there, bottom corners of the windshielf in small spots, needs power window switch bezels (windows work fine), left side mirror was replaced by old style, paints a little faded, etc. The canvas on the top has a couple holes from deterioration where it's pinched when folded, but could easily be patched for now. The rear AC has been removed by original owner "to provide better visibility", so no AC at the moment and I do not have the unit. Dash is perfect but door panels, drivers seat upholstery, etc show their age a bit. The rear tires need replaced, the left rear appears to have a broken belt and has a lump in the sidewall and makes a ton of noise. I will do a full cosmetic restoration inside and out including new paint and body work, new canvas and replace/update full AC system and sell it for $15K ($20K with TDi swap) I have over 20 yrs experience in VW's including founding and owning www.ngpracing.com
