Vehicle Detail
Own a piece of automotive history! This car was originally built for the Grassroots Motorsports $20XX Challenge series, and this year landed the second place finish overall. A picture of me three wheeling this car on the GRM Challenge autocross was used for the Grassroots motorsports 2013 calander for the month of August. There is a lot of blood sweat and tears in this car. I started with a wrecked 91 MR2 Turbo. I've since replaced the 91 motor with a Gen 3 from a GT Four. It took me 2 years to find a suitable first gen car to swap the drivetrain into. I found this 86 chassis in pieces, the car was a roller but just barely, the interior was mostly together, the engine bay was empty. The good news is that the body was all there and in decent shape, no major rust. The only rust I've found is a small rust hole behind the right rear wheel which is coverd with a rivited vynil patch for cosmetic reasons. The Mach 1.5 86 MR2 chassis 91 MR2 transaxle Gen 3 3SGTE engine Camry V6 CV shafts Homemade motor mounts Homemade engine sub harness Celica alternator and bracket Treadstone Intercooler Tial BOV Straight through muffler and down pipe Eibach Springs Tokiko Blue shocks ST sway bars All NEW OE Brakes : master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pads and rubber brake lines all around New Windshield Seats, headliner, visors all painted with duplicolor’s vinyl and fabric paint Engine bay has been completely stripped and painted, many custom brackets and hoses Suspension pieces have all been cleaned and painted Includes stock a/c pieces that were removed except for the compressor Fox racing wheels with Kumho V710 R compound tires The paint, this car started life as super white and at some point someone painted a pearl midcoat on top of it, I replicated this as best I could in the engine bay and rear bumper cover, it’s almost Lexus pearl white but with more blue pearl and less orange pearl. The decals are vynil and could be pretty easilly removed I figure since they were pictured int he magazine and calander it makes the car more recognisable. You can pick this car up here in Louisville, KY and drive it anywhere, I’ve driven it in traffic, interstate, back roads and never had a single problem, the car stays cool and doesn’t complain. It does not have cruise or a/c, everything else works fine, power windows, power locks, heat, wipers, lights etc. Drag race it, as it sits the car ran a 13.020 in the quarter mile and never hit fuel cut so it’s got more in it just need some time playing on the drag strip to dial it in. and I’m sure some true slicks would take that number down a bit as I was on 8 year old drag radials. Autocross it, locally I run SSM, Add some cut out flares to make room for some bigger tires add a LSD, convert to coil overs and really dominate. Needs, the car could use a real exhaust as it's a bit droney on the inside. The front strut bearings are rattling and could use replaced. There are some different shift cables that would make the shifter less notchy. It's on R compound tires right now and are not suitable for street use. If someone really wanted to drive this car home and paid a deposit I can put street tires on it.
