Vehicle Detail
1979 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser I have owned this truck for over 10 years and during it's first few years with me it underwent a complete teardown to the bare frame and underwent a very thorough rebuild. The frame and axle housings were sandblasted to bare metal. Imperfections on the frame rails were filled with body filler before paint. At this time additional plate steel was welded on in the transfer case area on each side as well. That was in preparation for a V8 conversion that I later changed my mind about. The frame was painted first with eastwood rust encapsulator then with their chassis black. The axles were painted with self-etching primer and centari gloss black enamel. Upon reassembly all new tie rods were installed along with all new polyurethane spring bushings, 2.5" skyjacker springs, extended SOR shackles, and a Saginaw power steering conversion. The power steering consists of a BTB products steering box mounting plate, 85 Caprice steering box & pump, and a Downey off road steering shaft & tie rod. All the other tie rod ends were changed at that time as well. It rolls on 15x8 american racing python wheels and 33x12.50x15 BF Goodrich all terrains. The spare is an older 33" BFG all terrain on a white spoke wheel. The body on this truck is rust free. From the cowl area rearwards is a first generation Aqualu aluminum body. These are made in Canada and they are very heavy gauge aluminum. It will never rust. From the cowl forward is mostly original Toyota. The cowl is the original from this truck as well as the radiator support and fender aprons. The hood came from a rust free donor. The fenders and windshield frame are aftermarket replacements. Any rust was sandblasted from the original panels during the rebuild. All the panels were sprayed with self-etching primer and several coats of tinted epoxy primer before the paint was laid down. The paint is a single stage urethane and it has been color sanded and buffed. All new emblems were installed after paint as well as all new lenses and side mirrors. The bumpers are old Con-Ferr tube bumpers that have been sprayed with bedliner material. The stock tire carrier was sprayed with bedliner too. The interior has a Cruiser Solutions carpet kit, a tuffy locking center console with cup holders, aftermarket Pro Comp "super seats" up front, and a rear fold&tumble seat from a late model TJ. the stereo is an older Kenwood CD player along with 4 5-1/4" speakers in homemade mounts along with an 8" bazooka tube behind the seat. It's all powered by an older Kenwood amp under the passenger seat. It's not the highest end stereo by any means but you can actually hear it going down the highway with the top off. I do not have a hard top for the truck. But it does come with a full Kayline fast track soft top and a Kayline bikini top. Along with the factory gauge cluster there is also an Auto Meter tachometer and Sunpro mechanical oil and coolant temperature gauges along with a voltmeter. The engine is original to the truck but about 4500 miles ago it underwent a complete rebuild. The block was bored .40 over and the crank was cut.10 under. And obviously all new pistons, rings, bearings, and a new oil pump went into the bottom end. The entire bottom end was also balanced as part of the rebuild. The cylinder head was shaved .030 to increase compression, all new valve guides and seats were installed during the rebuild as well. It has a stock 2F intake with a JTO high rise adapter for the Weber 38/38 carb. It has a Mallory centrifugal advance distributor with a pertronix electronic ignition conversion. The exhaust consists of a Downey header, 2-1/4" custom bent pipe leading to a Thrush turbo muffler and exiting through a stainless exhaust tip. The truck still has the original 3.70 gears in the open differentials. The transmission is factory untouched Toyota. The transfer case was rebuilt about 10k miles ago. When the transfer case was apart I noticed the case had begun to crack slightly so it was professionally tig-welded before the rebuild and a transfer case saver was installed to prevent any further issues. I love this truck but the reality is I hardly ever drive it and could really use the cash and the garage space. I have owned it over 10 years and I have put less than 25k miles on it in that time. The last few years I have only put maybe 1000 miles a year on it. If you are looking for an FJ40 that isn't a project and can be driven anywhere right now this is it. The motor is smoother than any 2F I have ever experienced and it's actually got a good deal of power as well. The seats are comfortable, the power steering, 3.70 gears, and 33" tires and balanced engine make it effortless to drive on the interstate at 75MPH all day long. it seems to get around 12mpg on the highway and about 14 cruising at 40-50 on secondary roads. Payment must be made within 48 hours of the auction close. Full amount either in cash at my bank or by bank wire transfer only. NH does not title vehicles over 15 years old. Vehicle will come with a bill of sale and a copy of my current registration as well as an older PA title not in my name. I have sold older vehicles out of state in the past and with this information the new owners have had no issues obtaining a new title. This truck has NO smog equipment on it whatsoever. If you live in a state with emissions inspection requirements it's up to you to figure out how to work that out. It's registered as an antique here and is exempt.
