Vehicle Detail
The white paint on this Z is a combination of good original paint (which is in great condition for its age) and a few well-done touch ups. You’d have to check with your local car club, but I’d guess there’s more than enough original paint on this car’s flanks to qualify for survivor status. Body panels are straight and clean, hanging in their as-installed-by-GM positions, and even those long doors fit well and close properly. The blue Z28 graphics along the rockers and on the hood are in great shape. There’s no checking or fading, and all the edges are crisp and undamaged. The glass, including the T-tops, is in good shape, about what you’d expect for a car with a little over 80,000 miles and the lenses and emblems are nice. Most of the service parts have been replaced over the years, but there are no suspicious modifications or signs of abuse. It runs extremely well, and I have recently replaced items like cap, rotor, coil, plugs, wires, air cleaner, and all the fluids including the transmission and rear end. Take a look underneath and you’ll have no doubts about the claim that this car has never been driven in the winter. There’s no sign of significant rust or repairs, and there are a lot of new components under there as well. The transmission is a 3-speed automatic, which was optional on the 1981 Z28. The exhaust system is fairly new, as well as the tires and brakes. It rides on a set of white color-matched Rallye wheels with trim rings and Z28 centercaps with 225/70/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials.
