Vehicle Detail
Here is my 1960 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite up for sale. These Bugeyes are getting harder and harder to find so don’t miss this chance to own one. This car runs good, drives good, and stops good. It is a blast to drive. This car is all original except for the spin on oil filter. That means it has its original 948cc engine, carbs, transmission, diffy, drum brakes, etc. There are no known issues with the engine or tranny. Everything works on this car except for the few things listed below that still need to be done (washers, heater hoses,). This means all blinkers, lights, horn, dash lights, tach, wipers, speedo, etc. works as expected. The odometer does not work so I don't know the actual mileage. I did a compression test quite a while ago and though I don’t remember the exact numbers, all cylinders were within a few pounds of each other. I think they were all about 150 lbs. As I said, this car runs and shifts good, but I have no way of knowing how many miles are on this engine or tranny. The steering rack seems to be fine as there is no play, it feels tight, and steers well. Shocks seem fine. I bought this car in 2004 from a fellow named Dave that owned her for a number of years. The receipts I have from Dave date to the early 1990s, but I’m not sure exactly when Dave bought it. I’m also not sure how many previous owners there were before Dave bought it. This car was originally iris blue. I have some pictures of the car when it was blue. I’m not sure what condition the car was in when Dave got it, but he did quite a bit of body work including new metal floors. I have a few pics of this process that Dave gave to me. He did a really good job I think with the exception of the battery tray and in all fairness to Dave, I don’t know if he did the work on this or if it was like that when he got the car. This battery tray area has been fiberglassed to some degree and I’ve tried to show pictures of it. It is very sound and strong; I just think it could be a little smoother. Dave had it painted the color you see here. I think the paint job is about a 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. It is what I would call a good, driver quality paint job. Not showroom by any means, but very serviceable. Dave was starting the rest of the restoration when he was transferred to somewhere in the midwest and decided not to take the car with him. When I bought it, the engine and drivetrain were intact and in the car. The original interior was out of the car and in very bad shape. The tires were very old, brakes were bad, etc. etc. However, since it was basically intact, I decided I would go ahead and get it running properly and drive it for a while. Then I planned to strip it back down completely, do a little work on the battery tray and paint the car black. This is why you see a red car with a brown leather interior. The interior is very nice and I think it would look killer with a black or british racing green car. Anyway, here is a list of what I did to the car: New brake hoses New wheel cylinders New brake lines New clutch line New clutch slave cylinder New master cylinder Gas tank cleaned New wiring harness New clutch Steering wheel refurbished New seat foam Rebuilt seat pans New leather interior (over $1000 invested in this alone) New dash New door panels New carpet New fresh air duct Radiator refurbished New radiator hoses New heater core ( I think it is new) Spin on oil filter New tires New speedometer cable New racing seat belts Here is what it still needs: 1. Cockpit surround molding needs to be refurbished/re-annodized. 2. It needs a new top and new tonneau. I have the old top and tonneau , but they are worn out. 3. Wiper washer stuff is not hooked up. 4. Heater plumbing is not hooked up. (Hey…I’m in Florida.) 5. Depending upon how nice you want to make this car, re-chrome the mirror and a few other items, re-annodize or chrome the windshield frame, etc. I have all of the original bumpers, the soft top frame, and a box or so of extra parts. So why am I selling? Well, my interests are the same but my focus has changed somewhat. I love classic cars but I’m also very much into motorcycles and I just don’t think I’ll drive this car very much. As I said, it runs and drives good and can be used as a daily driver like it is. I just have more fun on my motorcycles. So rather than having it sitting here not being driven, I would rather see someone else enjoy it. Remember, the values of these cars do not go down. Buy one at a reasonable price and watch it appreciate while you drive it. Check this out:flickr.com/photos/61289899@N02/sets/72157633489589188/And this: youtu.be/vqZaEIjP_ZsThere is no rust in this car that I can detect. It looks good at all of the typical areas where these cars rust. The paint is not bubbling or peeling anywhere. Please don’t bid if you don’t have the money and please ask questions before you bid. Also, you are more than welcome to make me an offer but please don't ask what the reserve price is. I have set it very low and I believe this vehicle will sell. I have this vehicle for sale locally and reserve the right to end this auction at any time. Please remember this car is 53 years old. I have described it to the best of my ability but it is being sold as-is, where-is.Vehicle and title will not be released until all funds have cleared. I have clear title to the car. Buyer is responsible for all shipping including all arrangements. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding. On Jun-01-13 at 08:01:40 PDT, seller added the following information: 6/1/2013 Hi Folks. I have had tremendous interest in this car and a few questions. Someone wanted to know what size tires these are. They are Sumitomo 175/70 x 13. Someone else wanted to see the undercarriage. I don't have a lift but check this out and be sure to read the descriptions I wrote. flickr.com/photos/61289899@N02/sets/72157633854264117/ Thanks to everyone looking and bidding! Good luck!
