Vehicle Detail
1972 BMW Bavaria (E3)3.0 M30 six cylinder, 4 speed manual, 4 wheel power disc brakes, manual steering, no A/COne family owned 1974-2010. Three owners total, near as I can tell. Extensive maintenance records, including engine and trans rebuilds. Owned by me for almost 3 years; kept inside. Great fun to drive and listen to. I've had my time with it; now it's your turn. Currently tagged, registered, and insured; title in my name. VIN 3101904Bought new in Indiana, moved to D.C in 2010, currently near Baltimore. Malaga with Tobacco interior. BodyRust in the following areas: bottom of both front fenders, left outer rocker (1" x 2"), left quarter panel under previous repair, bubbles in front of hood, bubbles in front of fenders, bubbles on front fascia (hard to see because it's under the bumper), front floors, both sides, on either side of unibody reinforcements, a couple of small (1" diameter or less) spots in two of the doors. See photos. The following areas are SOLID: all 4 shock towers, trunk, including spare tire well, inner rockers, right quarter panel, area around windshield and rear window, C pillars. Right rear door is dented a bit, and so is the right quarter panel. Two separate, unrelated issues. Discussion: This car is solid where it needs to be. Received a proper glass-out repaint in the original color in the early 80's, and has degraded significantly since then. Appears to have been hit and properly fixed in the right rear soon after the repaint. Right quarter is totally solid, seems to be filler-free, and has different paint, but in the same color. Paint on entire car is D-E-A-D and looks worse in person than in the pictures. At least it's still all one color. Aftermarket sunroof. Yes, it leaks. Right rear door is a replacement that was dented in shipment. Previous door was dented worse. P.O. claims the car was hit broadside by a deer while he was driving (yup, that's really what he said); no damage to body structure, just the door skin. Car has a complete set of trim, and it's all on the car. InteriorAppears to have been redone around the same time as the repaint. Seats are vinyl with cloth inserts. Overall intact and in useable condition. Would benefit from a re-dye. Carpet is thick and plush and was originally dark brown. Seats need new padding (one recently purchased new-in-bag BMW front seat bottom is included with the auction). Headliner is intact but stained a bit. Dash is cracked as usual. Non A/C center console is relatively uncommon. All the glass is good, and all the windows go up and down, though the drivers window mechanism needs attention. The locks work from the inside only, and the left rear door opens from the inside only. Needs sun visor clips and hardware. ChassisA few new parts: - Front brake pads (semi-metallic)- Front lower control arm bushings- Front anti-roll bar end-link bushings- Rear subframe bushings- Fresh brake fluid Koni shocks. Appears to have aftermarket springs. Seems to sit lower than stock and the ride is quite firm. Tires are stock size, are date coded 2009, and have only 2-3 K miles on them. The car goes down the road smoothly and vibration free. Manual steering is light and tight. Stops in a straight line, pedal is firm and the required effort is light. No pulsation but there's a little shimmy sometimes. EngineM30, 3 liter. Block VIN matches car VIN. Rebuilt in the early 80's at 120K miles. Receipt available. Odometer currently reads 92K, is working and was working when I bought the car. Weber 32/36 carbs, professionally rebuilt in 2010. Recent plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel pump. Electronic ignition box (no points!). AMC brand head; P.O. said it was replaced in 2005. No receipt, but is looks spotless under the rocker cover. Idles decently but not perfectly, then runs smoothly from 1500 to redline, and sounds great. No smoke. Pulls smoothly and strongly. Later model black fan for improved cooling. Transmission / Clutch4 speed. Feels tight, shifts easily. Whines a little in lower gears. Clutch feels great but squeaks a little with the pedal up in Neutral. ElectricalH4/H1 headlights. Left high beam is shorting on something; others work fine. All the other lights work, though they need to be cleaned from time to time. Wipers work fine. New blower motor in 2010. Good heat, and all the air controls work. The radio works (poorly), but it needs an antenna. Spare parts included New-in-bag recently purchased BMW front seat bottom pad, very nice used windlace. I might find some other stuff in the next few days. Other StuffI invite you to come and look at the car before you bid. I'm located in Reisterstown, MD, 21136. This car has a lot of "personality". I probably failed to describe all of it. Read the description twice, carefully, look at all the pictures, twice, then feel free to ask questions. Payment: I'll except cash in person or Paypal. See elsewhere in the auction for more info. Reserve is modest, since these cars are worth far less than they should be. International buyers accepted, but you are completely responsible for all shipping arrangements and export paperwork, and I require complete payment in advance. I have plenty of room for your personal truck and trailer, and there is a parking lot within walking distance to load bigger trucks.
