Vehicle Detail
1939 Chevrolet Master 85 Business Coupe. I started this project awhile back, but I've been too busy to finish it. We started with a pretty straight 1939 Chevy Coupe. We replaced the front and rear axles with corvette suspension and wheels (1987). Then we installed a fresh 454 (bored .030 over, casting number 14015445,). The engine has KB pistons, Comp Cam (model 11-250-3), Patriot Headers (2" x 36" primaries, 3.5" x 18" collectors.), Roller rockers, new crank, and the Aluminum Pro Comp heads (115CC chambers, 320cc intake runner). Compression should be around 10.5:1 I included pictures of when the car arrived, and the subsequent work that we did. The engine and trans is installed, and positioned where a radiator can still be installed in front. The front seat will have to be move back a bit, but there is plenty of room in the cab. Should not be a problem. The corvette rear end is a limited slip unit. The ratio is probably 2.54:1. Much of the fabrication to install the engine/trans, and suspension has been done. Next to install would be the steering column and parking brake. The brakes are corvette anti-lock units, and we have the master cylinder. We also have the corvette steering column. The body is pretty straight with the exception of the back of the trunk. Someone (not us) pushed the car and dented the body back there but it is repairable. I have the fenders and headlights, but did not get the running boards. There are no rust hole anywhere on this car. The body is pretty good. Someone needs to finish what we started. We probably have $10,000 invested so far, but hey, it's only money.... This is a no reserve auction, so we'll roll with whatever happens. (Too many projects anyway) On Apr-15-13 at 22:32:13 PDT, seller added the following information: The carburetor is a Holley 1050 Dominator, in case anybody wondered. Also, for the really observant, notice that the big block is set back. It is not over the front axle. The accomplished three things. First, the weight is distributed better, instead of all the engine weight being over the front axle. Second, it allowed us to get the engine a bit lower, resulting in a lower center of gravity, for better handling. We didn't have to worry about clearing the front axle framework. Third, it allows for more room in front of the engine for a thicker radiator, electric fans, AC or other components. On Apr-17-13 at 17:07:20 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional note. We welded brackets onto the 1939 Chevrolet frame that mirror the brackets on the 1987 Corvette. This allowed us to bolt the front and rear suspension into place, just like it was installed on the Corvette. This way, if a person ever wanted to remove the front or rear end, it would simply unbolt, just as if it were in the Corvette.
