The Porsche 944 Turbo (aka 951) is well known for its high performance either on the street or on the track. However, with these cars now all around 25 years old it is extremely difficult to find examples with a simple, uncomplicated, one owner history. Difficult, but not impossible: Offered here is my 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo owned from new, factory stock, with exterior in Alpine White and interior in Light Grey. First, some background. The car was manufactured in June 1987 and purchased by me from Lynch Imports in Chicago, IL in January 1988 with 197 miles on the odometer. The car lived in Rockford, IL for nearly a year before I moved to Tucson, AZ in January 1989 at which time I had the car shipped there in a closed transporter. This was, more or less, my daily driver up until 2003 at which time it had around 115,000 miles on the odometer. Since then it has been driven lightly on weekends, accumulating only an additional 25,000 miles in the last 10 years. In the 1990's my wife and I were avid Porsche Club of America members in the local Southern Arizona Region - holding such roles as region President, Vice President, and Newsletter Editors between us. During this time we frequently entered the car in PCA Concours events. Now, however, with too much work and too many other cars to look after, it is time to let someone else enjoy this car – you perhaps? Let me describe the car’s condition: Exterior: The original Alpine White (Alpin Weiss) factory paint is in great condition apart from some inevitable minor stone chips and road rash. Bodywork is absolutely exceptional with no door dings or other similar defects. No signs of rust (not surprising having spent last 24 years in Arizona!!) Note: Rear bumper and right rear light cluster were replaced several years ago following a driveway altercation at a friend’s house. I just inspected this area a moment ago and it impossible for me to detect any sign of the repair work – it really is that good. All plastic light lenses uncracked except for small hairline in left rear cluster. Stone chip in right front foglight glass (common due to vulnerable location!) Tyres are ~3 yr old Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport (Porsche N-rated) with majority of tread remaining. Interior: The combination Light Grey (Hell Grau) and black interior is in excellent overall condition. There are no cracks in the dash as is commonly the case. Glovebox hinge works (many are broken!) Centre tape storage cover hinge is intact. Driver and passenger footwell carpet unworn as mats always used (only removed now for photos.) Specific issues are noted as follows: Some light wear on leather rim of steering wheel; some surface cracks in leather of driver’s side seat base (see photos); some separation in the seam between the light grey and black sections of the door cards (see photos); black plastic trim on seat belt anchor on B-pillar has faded to grey (minor cosmetic only); some splits in plastic covers on rear lap belts (minor cosmetic only); minor deterioration of vinyl edging on back of rear seats (see photos); luggage cover retract mechanism not functioning (assembly is removed but retained and will come with car); some worn patches and one stained area on rear luggage deck (see photos.) All gauges, warning lights etc. operate correctly except that water temperature gauge will sometimes momentarily flicker (indicating an intermittent somewhere) though it otherwise reads correctly. All convenience features like power sunroof, cruise control, power driver’s seat, and remote hatch release operate correctly. However, air conditioning is not operating – compressor operates but no cold air. Mechanical: Engine starts first time every time and runs very smoothly under all conditions. Turbo, wastegate, cyclic valve, vacuum hoses, etc. are functioning correctly. Nothing temperamental at all to report. Engine has always been fed highest grade fuels (Chevron, Shell, etc.) and oil (Mobil 1.) No issues to report with transmission – the five forward speeds and reverse all select cleanly and smoothly. Current transmission oil is Redline synthetic. Clutch operates and engages smoothly – original clutch replaced at around 90,000 miles so could expect another 40,000 miles of life from this one. Steering track is straight on – no pull in either direction on flat surface. Brakes, including handbrake, operate normally with no pull or binding. Power steering – no issues. Electric coolant recirculation pump for turbo – no issues. Other: Battery is brand new and features required hydrogen vent connection. Alternator charges normally. Windshield washer tank leaks at a slow rate due to a small crack. I have a replacement tank but have not installed it. Jack – car has original jack but handle is bent (after using jack with grease dried out.) Tools and tyre compressor – all present and correct. Oil seepage: not surprisingly in a car of this age, there is some seepage of oil. This is visible on some lower areas within the engine compartment and on the transmission housing. However, after one week standing since last driven I do not see any drips beneath car (Note: the front under tray is currently removed so there is no question of the tray catching drips!) Keys, Manual, Records: Car comes with two original keys, owner’s manual, warranty and Maintenance book, Window Sticker, and a large file of maintenance and repair records (see photos.)Offered at NO RESERVE, AS-IS, NO WARRANTY. Ask all questions and inspect the Porsche prior to bidding. Buyer to arrange for shipping, taxes, State paperwork, etc. Clear title will be signed over upon collection of funds. The Porsche is ready to go. A $500 deposit is due via Paypal at close of auction with final payment due within one week. On Apr-13-13 at 11:50:24 PDT, seller added the following information: ***Correction***: I just check records and discovered that the original clutch was replaced by dealer at just under 108,000 miles, so only about 32,000 miles of use on the new one!!
