Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V Cartier edition.154,000 original miles. 460 engine, automatic transmission. The car has most factory options, but it does NOT have a moonroof or factory CB radio. The car runs well. No smoke, ticks or knocks. It could stand a tune-up. The transmission works well. The brakes are adequate. The car just got an oil and filter change. Mechanically, the car seems sound. After a tune-up, hoses & belts, and a better set of tires, I would not hesitate to drive this car across country. Cosmetically, the car is presentable. It has been repainted the wrong color, and they did not paint the door jambs or under the trunk lid. There are a few areas of slight surface rust, and there are two small areas of surface rust just under the "C" pillar moulding on both sides. There is some very slight bubbling just starting on the lower driver's 1/4 panel behind the rear wheel. There does not seem to be any other rust issues. The floors are solid as is the trunk. There is one section on the trunk lid where paint has noticeably lightened, approx. 18" X 3 1/2" ( please see photo ).. The vinyl top has been removed and the roof has been painted with textured paint. There are no dents or body damage. There is one small upward ding in the hood, and the rear bumper filler has a crack. Interior: The interior is in good condition. The carpet is good, no rips in the headliner, no cracks in the dash. There is one small tear on the back seat, and some light scratches in the leather in the middle of the back seat. Functions: The clock does not work. The driver's power window does not work, it needs the plastic gear inside the window motor repaired or replaced. The passenger power door lock does not work. The driver's power door lock is weak. It takes multiple pushes to lock it, but it unlocks with one push. Both power seats work, but the separate driver's lumbar lever does not seem to work. The factory quadrasonic AM-FM radio works and the 8 track player still plays tapes. The rear window defrost does not seem to work. The driver's door outside heated mirror SEEMS to work if the rear window defrost switch is held in the on position. The A/C does seem to work, but needs recharged. The cruise control sets the speed, but then it seems to increase speed on it's own. The illuminated entry works correctly. The power antenna works, but it needs help going all the way up or down all the way into the fender. The power trunk works correctly. Both lighted sun visors work, but the driver's visor tiny dimmer switch is stuck in the low position. There is a leak in the vacuum head light system. When the car is started the head light doors close, but after the car is turned off the head light doors will open on their own after 30 minutes or so.The tires have good tread, but they are old and have weather cracks. The spare tire is in very good condition. I purchased this car a little over a year ago. I have been able to improve the car somewhat. I replaced the rear bumper with a better one( the original had silver spray paint on it ). I repaired both front cornering lights and the reading lights next to the center dome light. I added door edge guards, and replaced the spare tire with a better one. I also replaced the chrome trim on the driver's door panel, the original had lots of cracks. I replaced the armrest pad on the driver's door. The hood ornament and the Mark V emblem in the center of the grille were both missing, I have since found and installed both of those items. The air intake to the air cleaner was missing, as were the flexible foil looking hose and hose to oil breather cap. I added those items, but the air intake is from a '77 Mark V so it pulls in air next to the battery tray instead of on top of the radiator hold-down. I now have other projects that need my attention, so it is time to find this car a new home. This car has the original window sticker, owner's manual and ownercard. The title is clear. This car is in good "driver" condition. Please read the description and view the photos before bidding. If you have any additional questions, or would like more photos please email. You may also call (503) 569-8045 8 am- 11 pm PST. The car is located in Salem, OR approx. one mile from Interstate 5. A $50 non-refundable paypal deposit is due within 48 hours of auction end. The balance paid in cash in person, or certified bank check.Winning bidder has two weeks to pick up the car unless other arrangements are made. Thanks for looking. On Mar-26-13 at 15:21:22 PDT, seller added the following information: A couple more details I failed to mention. This car has the auto-lamp head light system, but I have not tried to see if it works. It also has the miles-to-empty gauge, but it does not work. This car can sit for weeks without being started. Two pumps on the pedal, and it usually starts on the first or second crank.
