Vehicle Detail

Our reserve is set LOW! Far cheaper than other Toyota FJs on eBay right now. Read on... There are 64 Super Sized photos in the slide-show, so if you are not able to view it above, please be sure to go to: https://picasaweb.google.com/115833998602437761889/ToyotaFJ40ForSale?authuser=0&feat=directlink Many people with Smart Phones have trouble viewing my albums. Maybe try a laptop or desktop computer. You are looking at a 1973 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40. These are; by far; the most iconic production vehicle Toyota Motor Corporation has ever built. They changed little in the 29 years this model was made. This is one of the most desirable years for the FJ-Series. They have a removable top & doors & flip-down windshield for open-air driving fun, 4x4 go-anywhere capability, and rugged good looks that are second-to-none! You can find a whole array of aftermarket soft-top configurations, or even a factory FJ-45 hard-top pickup half-cab for this vehicle; making it a very versatile SUV, pickup, 4x4, roadster-convertible combo! They feature a 3.9 liter overhead valve inline 6 cylinder engine, frame-on-body construction & solid front & rear axles with sealed-ball type u-joints so you can cross creeks & rivers without having to re-pack your wheel-bearings with grease. One might not guess it from their relatively little size, but these rigs are built really tough! Even with their short wheel-base, they handle much better than CJ Jeeps on loose gravel roads & such. Land Cruisers have been used in Safari Expeditions all around the World for the past 60 years, and have tried & true off-road capability! With 10 windows, there are no blind-spots in these babies! This one we have for sale remains completely stock right down to the hubcaps and factory original color paint. True tailgate models of the FJ-40 are rare & especially desirable… most have the “half-gates” or “barn-door” assemblies. But this one has the full-width tailgate as you can see, and it is the factory original one. This vehicle only has 69,000 miles on it. The floors were patched by a previous owner, and are pretty solid, but there’s one small spot where daylight is still visible from the interior beneath the driver’s seat. Also there’s some rust in the upper rear hatch, and couple of pinholes on the original exterior running boards still showing. So many people butcher these rigs up with amateur body-work (or copious useage of blingy aluminum diamond-plate “rust-covers”), which just makes them look terrible. We kept this vehicle looking as factory-original as possible, and there is very little body-filler in it. This is a non power-steering model, but does have power brakes. The dash switches and levers are all still intact which is pretty uncommon for an FJ-40. The headlights, turn signals and wipers are not presently working properly (we're looking into it, and if we get them all working by the end of auction, it'll just be a bonus, but presently they still need some attention). The heater fan blower motor works fine, the alternator charges great and battery is really strong. There is a brand new tempered safety-glass windshield just installed, and all the rest of the factory glass is still good on the vehicle. The engine has good compression and doesn’t exhibit any ticks, knocks or extra noises. It also has good belts and hoses. The transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears just as it should. The four-wheel-drive transfer-case works flawlessly and there are lockout hubs on the front axle. There is a matching spare tire, but it's not on a rim. The front brake cylinders were just honed & re-assembled, so the vehicle stops decently now (the brake lines could maybe stand to be bled one more time though). The brake pads looked fine, so we didn’t replace them. This vehicle doesn’t drip any fluids on the ground when parked, so the gaskets are still pretty supple. Also, there are brand new spark plugs and wires on the engine. The headliner was just replaced, and a previous owner laid down indoor/outdoor carpeting (which both help with sound deadening). Tan seat covers were installed over the seats. The OEM Toyota dash-pad is un-cracked and in nice condition. The original roll-bar is still present with its factory padding. There are a couple of 6x9 speakers in the rear corners back by the tailgate, so thankfully the door panels weren’t cut out. There’s also a non-working aftermarket tape-deck installed (again the work of a previous owner). This rig still needs a top & door whether-seal kit as it’s not very water (or wind) tight. The carburetor was taken completely apart and the jets & orifices all thoroughly cleaned, but for some reason the fuel mixture is still too lean unless you leave the choke lever pulled out a bit, which consequently makes the engine idle rather fast. You can watch a walk-around video and hear it running at the following URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0EKCDdwWBA&feature=share&list=UUByygjKBZuJCGTF3pGa_elg Despite the aforementioned issues, it still seems pretty reliable as we’ve driven it around town, but it’s recommend that you trailer it home. The brake lights do work though, so it could be driven during the daytime as it is. So many FJ-40s have been altered with gas-sucking Chevy V8s, wide-offset aftermarket rims & tires, lift kits, etc. but I don’t feel that those things add anything to their coolness factor. They’re just so neat the way they were built in the first place. I hope you agree! We’ve priced this one far cheaper than comparable other Land Cruisers on eBay, and have completed all the hard stuff for you, so now there’s just a couple more little things to finish up to make this thing a really nice daily driver. This is a collectible, classic 4x4 built with Toyota quality! Thanks for looking, and we welcome anyone to come inspect this vehicle in person throughout the duration of the auction, or arrange an inspection at one of the local garages in town (which we can drop it off at), but by bidding on this 40 year old vehicle, you acknowledge that it is being sold As Is with no warranty. A scan of the front and back of the clean title can be provided to you, and a $250 security deposit is due within 5 days of auction’s end via PayPal, or money order mailed to the owner: Brian Trettin, 1416 Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, IA 50401. If you intend on having this vehicle delivered, a wire-transfer or cashier’s check is preferred, and Atlas Auto Shippers (888) 285-2706, or David Irving (612) 709-3150 would be a couple of great recommendations. They have competently moved many classic cars around the country for us, with careful track-records and are very competitively priced transporters. The title and vehicle will be released upon the clearing of funds. If additional time is needed to get it picked up, storage is not a problem, but please have it paid for within 10 days after auction’s end either way. If picking this vehicle up in person, please bring cash for the remainder of payment. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.
