Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a genuine up and coming classic, a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am. These cars are finally achieving the notice of collectors as demonstrated by recent auction results such as Mecum’s where these cars consistently top $20-$23K or more, especially the 4-speed cars with the true Special Editions topping that number. This car is equipped with the desirable Pontiac T/A 6.6 litre (400 cubic inch) W72 motor, original block, numbers matching of course. This is the high performance motor for 1977, not the more sedate L78 Pontiac 400 cubic inch or the L80 Olds 403 cubic inch motor. It is coupled to the original numbers matching M21 close ratio 4-speed transmission and a 3.23 posi rear end. The car features code 75 Buccaneer Red paint with the Deluxe white bucket seat interior and was delivered with the following options in addition to the standard Trans Am fare: M21 4-speed manual transmission, close ratio QCY GR70x15 white letter tires C60 Custom Air conditioning A01 Soft ray glass-all windows WW7 Hood decal Y92 Lamp group AU3 Saf-T-Lok power door locks A31 Power windows U63 AM Radio N33 Tilt steering wheel Y90 Custom Trim Group W72 T/A 6.6L 4bbl V8 engine The good - This is an authentic, PHS documented factory 4-speed car. The color combination is desirable and somewhat rare with the white interior. The A/C system appears to be all there but hasn’t been tested. The car starts, runs, drives and stops. There is evidence of a prior engine rebuild but no receipts. It was sold and delivered new in Phoenix, AZ and was recently shipped up from west Texas. The car comes with PHS documentation and reproduction window sticker. Other – The car currently breathes through an Edelbrock intake and Holley carburetor and exhales through a set of headers. These pieces are easily replaced with stock components. A correct GM intake manifold and used exhaust manifolds are included if desired. The correct 6X heads are intact. The car rides on aftermarket wheels. A nice set of newly restored original Pontiac Rally II 15x7 inch wheels will be included in the Buy it Now price. Aftermarket wheel opening flares and front spoiler were removed and are not included. The stock parts are gone. Reproduction parts are available as are used parts. None of the Trans Am graphics are on the car. Several companies make excellent reproduction graphic sets. And yes, the hood bird (WW7) was an extra cost option. Go figure. Issues – As with most 35 year old, unrestored cars, there are some issues. The dash pad is cracked. Dash overlays or remanufactured units are available. The power windows go down but need help going back up. The back seat upper portion is damaged and the package tray needs replacement as does the carpet. There is an aftermarket radio that appears to work but the knobs are missing. A few minor interior trim pieces are missing but are readily available. The trunk is nice with no visible issues. Structurally, the frame and front sub-frame are good. The critical rear spring areas are very good. These are often rusted. The LH quarter will need some attention around the rear of the wheel opening and a small area on the front of the opening. The bottom of the doors may require a bit of attention. The floors could benefit from some patch panels. The nose needs adjustment on the RH side. Paint is red and somewhat shiny but honestly, should be redone. The windshield has a barely noticeable crack. The power steering pump leaks but a new remanufactured unit comes with the car. The original air cleaner assembly is gone. The shaker hood scoop is attached to the hood, not the carb as GM intended. The bottom line – If you are still reading this, you realize this car is a worthy candidate for restoration. It sports the classic lines and styling of the second generation Firebird/Trans Am while retaining the important components of its numbers matching drive train. Combined with its eye-catching factory color combo, extensive option list and escalating value, this may be the car for you to restore while the prices are still reasonable. Please email me with any and all questions. I wanted to accurately describe the car and its condition, not to scare anyone away but to provide important details that will eliminate unpleasant surprises down the road. This is by no means a rust bucket, basket case or parts car but a survivor that deserves to be restored, shown and driven. This is a used car and as such, there is no warranty, expressed or implied. Buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements and costs. I will assist in making sure the car gets loaded and on its way. A $500 non-refundable deposit, preferably via Paypal is requested within 48 hours after the auction ends with full payment due within 10 days. Wire transfers, bank checks or cash accepted but the car cannot be shipped until checks clear. Thank you for your understanding.
